EDIT: I LOWERED THE PRICE WAY DOWN. SOMEBODY TAKE THIS DAMN THING. To be fair, I wrote this description for craigslist which is why it sounds stupid: Vintage Randall rg80es half stack. Solid state but sounds amazing. Clean/crunch and Distortion channels with the option to mix them with footswitch (don't have original but have custom-made footswitch for channel switching/mixing). This is the amp that many people use to get the 1980s "dimebag darrel" sound, but it can do all kinds of sounds. Hardcore/metal/hard rock/punk are what its best for though. 80 watts through 8 ohms or 100 watts through 4 ohms. VERY loud, even if only at 80 watts. The option to mix the channels really gives you a very tube-like dynamic warm sound. This is the best sounding solid state amp i've ever heard(check the reviews, most other people agree reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar+Amp/product/Randall/RG80ES/10/1)Vintage piece with some pretty scratchy pots and the reverb is noisy, but it still sounds amazing and is still usable. No noise at all when used with a guitar with humbuckers(assuming the reverb is turned all the way down). The only problems are one of the knobs is missing its top cover(still completely functional, one of the knobs on the back used to wrap the power cord around is broken off, and the large peavey logos on the front have been taken off (I will put them back on or just include them with it if you want). The carpet covering is in good shape, just dusty. Cab is 2x12 with celestions that were replaced some years ago. The cab handles 140 watts at either 4 or 16 ohms and sounds great. Gets good speaker breakup which adds to the sound. $250 negotiable.

vtm120 over a 5150 anyday. seriously. the only good thing about a 5150 is you can be really loud and play metalcore. they don't even have van halen tone.

Well the only reason I'd buy a 5150 is I have a friend selling one, but i'm not sure how much for.
I've heard good things about the vtm, whats your opinion on what it can do? Also, should i just get the vtm60 and push the tubes harder?

yea. vtm whoops 5150 for sure.
i've heard some people say the 60 sounds better, but I personally think they both sound amazing. My 120 is really really loud. and even better, they go for really cheap. you can usually get them for around 250 dollars.

the 120's are usually cheaper for some reason, but they have the same sound, all you gotta do is take out the two outside power tubes and voila! you got a 60. theres only a few amps you can do this on, and this just happens to be one of them.
like any amp, you really need a tube screamer to push it even harder if you wanna sound mean as shit, but it can already nail every tone in between.
please stay away from the 5150 though, the randall you have kicks its ass.
the only way i would run a 5150 as my rig is if it were the 60 watt 2x12 combo with a 4x12 extension on the opposite side of the stage from a full stack triple rectifier user. and only if i was playing lead guitar in a metalcore band.
the chances of that exact scenario happening is zero.

Someone buy this. I'm really tired of fuckers emailing me from craigslist and asking me to sell the cab for 75 bucks. Some guy argued with me back and forth for like 5 emails that he could get an equal quality cab with 2 times as many speakers for 250 new or 199 used. God I hate craigslist.

levi, i agree with most of your opinions gearwise, but block-letter 5150s are heaven sent. seriously some of the best tone ever comes out of those amps

levi, i agree with most of your opinions gearwise, but block-letter 5150s are heaven sent. seriously some of the best tone ever comes out of those amps i used to think that when i had my blockletter 5150 combo [60watts so it gets creamy alot easier] and i fucking loved it. it made my guitar sound like a fucking laser gun. and they don't start sounding like a cave full of bats when they get loud. BUT my only complaint about them is that they're almost impossible to find now and if you do find one for sale on the cheap, someone has probably put some stupid mod on it. I HATE 6505s and 5150 IIs but you know what i do like those fender made 5150 IIIs but they're so fucking expensive, for that money i'd buy a fucking splaun.

haha. I live in Myrtle Beach and don't drive. Halfway would probably be Columbia and I don't think I'll be there for quite some time.
