Aside from asking for spare change non-stop, they really present no harm, unless your a cop of course.

no problems with them whatsoever. i admire the ability to walk around without showering for months, and i like urban exploring/the concept of squatting
matt chaos managed to go from lousianna to nyc and eat, sleep, and travel for free as well. i think that's rad as fuck.

i have some crusty friends. they're weird, but they always have good stories and they're very friendly.
they're all poly-amorous which is kind of creepy.

I think anarchy is stupid. I also think begging for money when you are perfectly capable of getting a job is stupid too. I dislike most crusties but I know a few cool ones.

worst thing is anytime you are stuck with crusties its at some show with way to many people no a/c . All the non showering and lack of deodorant magnifies and makes it unbearable, other than the olfactory assault i don't mind them. I don't give a fuck what they believe in or what anyone believes in.

most crusties are alright. the ones who fake a west coast accent or tell stories of train hopping and bumming money from famous people always come off as if they're looking for some sort of approval.
"approval" meaning "oh i feel sorry for you, heres a dollar"
a couple of them stayed at my apt a while back, i'm sure you all remember me bitching about the unwanted house guests that my roommate invited to stay with us. one was pretty cool and she did all the cleaning that i would normally do so i got to take it easy for the most part, but the other one was a total jerkoff, always telling dumb stories about some band that he was never really a member of and stories of how he used to beat up nazi punks when he was "in his heyday"... the kid was 19 years old and just always seemed like he was expecting us to be like "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU GET A FUCKING COOKIE!"... long story short, i ended up kicking his ass out of the apt about three days after he showed up because he slammed the back door to our balcony and busted my spongebob jackolantern, then told my roommate to fuck off all because he was jealous that he was sleeping with the other crustie and that he was TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH HER. fun night, but if i ever were to see that kid again, and he were on fire, i wouldn't piss on him to put him out.
the crusties that go to raleigh house shows, however, are cool as fuck. super nice and always down to party hard.
i can't say much about smelling bad though. i never shower. but i do use deodorant and often make an effort to rectify my olfactory issues if i can smell myself even the tiniest bit.
i know straight edge tough guy hardcore kids that smell 1,000,000 times worse than any crustie i've ever met. [phil from xhonorx... love the guy to death, but HOLY SHIT, if you ever smell something DEAD AND ROTTING at a show, its him]

The only time i give a shit about traveling kids (crusties) is when they are pushy about spanging or when they act like assholes when we let them into shows for free. I've met some really nice ones though and some really stupid ones, just like every other type of person.

just because you are capable of getting a job doesnt mean that you want to get a job backed. i can't get a job, but bumming money is also a job in itself. anyone who feels that they HAVE to beg for anything other than sex is a pitiful human being. anyone who begs for sex should call me sometime. now asking for money or TELLING someone to give you money just out of fun or spite is completely different. thats just plain hilarious, especially when you make more money than the people who feel that they need to beg for it.

gonna go ahead and say that if you are begging for money, there is an understood agreement between you and the person you are begging from that you need the money because some situation that is out of your hands, perhaps temporarily, is preventing you from getting it yourself. if some lazy punk wants to "travel the country" and emulate poverty by begging people to get from place to place because he thinks it will make him experienced and well-traveled, i think that's bullshit. i could never exploit other people's generosity like that. thats just my take.

i definitely agree with what everyone is saying about begging because most are probably capable of holding some sort of job but clearly dont want to, but i don't see any problem with hopping trains for transportation, staying in old buildings, and either stealing food from somewhere like wal-mart or getting the day old stuff from restaraunts that is being thrown out.

plenty of negative shit can be said about crust kids, but just as much negative shit can be said about hardcore kids. there are good and bad people in any category. of course it is annoying as fuck when people assume they're more punk than you because their leather jacket shows more road scars... but i think it is more annoying to hear about limited color vinyl and stage dive stories.
maybe not more annoying. but really close.
