the first time i ever added drums to a recording, i used my xbox 360. of course if you dont have a video game system and a computer, this could be rather expensive, but if you do, i'll explain how to do it. its not the best, but its extremely easy to do with just a few audio adapters.
otherwise, you can usually find a torrent for programs like FL Studio
or you can do like jay reatard did and get a 5 gallon bucket and one drum stick. the stick hit will represent your snare, and hitting it with your hand will represent a kick drum or tom. then all you need is a broken cymbal.

Ez drummer used to be easy to find for free online. I have a friend who is literally a genius with it. I would say it is relatively easy to use; he runs it through reaper, and simply puts the drum hits in through the MIDI feature. Then all you have to do is mess around with the eq. I don't know what kind of music you play, but I will say its going to sound over produced no matter what you do to it. I mainly use it as a writing tool, works out great too.

How does this work? ok theres like two or three different community made "games" on xbox that are like 3 bucks apiece that are actually just drum machines in their simplest form. more for electronic shit but no different than fruity loops. the way i recorded the drums for my AGIRLWITHDOWNS ep was i recorded all my shit without drum tracks [which comes easier for some people anyways] then plugged into guitar hero metallica [rock band 2 also has this feature as well as most of the other rock band and guitar hero games in studio mode with my rock band drums and sent the audio out [in stereo] to my mixer. shit sounds digital, but i actually played them, so they follow the music as well as i'm able to play them.
