In the end she learns how to control and use her superpowers for good. I support the film Teeth.

Also, I'd like to add that I didn't think Irreversible was as bad as most people make it out to be.

I wasn't too impressed with Irreversible honestly, granted, the copy I have doesn't have subtitles. It almost seems like they took the end scene of the Doom Generation and made it into a separate fucking movie.
(ps: watch the doom generation)

We're actually studying horror films in my Cultural Media Literacy class. Their are so many psychological aspects applied to horror films that are often overlooked.

Although not as disturbing as any of the films that have been listed, I would like to throw Battle Royale out there. I have always found the concept to be disturbing. The movie is phenomenal as well as the book and the manga.

In class today we watched Breaking the Waves, which is a Lars von Trier film. This is one of my favorites that we've watched. I'll try to sum it up. A lot of the film is about sacrifice. If any of you ever watch it, you should ask yourself two questions:
who would you take a bullet for? once you've answered that, you need to ask yourself: for whom would you let a bunch of strange men fuck you?
The main character is Bess, who is a little bit retarded. She lives in a tiny scottish town full of Calvinists. She wants to marry Jan, who is a Norwegian oil rigger worker, and everyone freaks out because hes an outsider. But she does it anyway, and immediately after the ceremony they have sex in the bathroom. But pretty soon he has to go back to the oil rig. She prays for him to come home, and she talks to God, and then she answers herself as if she is God. Jan is injured in the oil rig and sent home, but hes paralyzed. Bess blames herself. Jan tells her if she has sex with other men and tells him about it, he'll get better. So Bess makes the ultimate sacrifice and starts fucking random old men, and Jan starts to get better. The movie gets weirder, but I cant say anything else without ruining it.
But if you like misogyny, full frontal male nudity, and mentally handicapped girls giving handjobs on the back of the bus, this movie is for you.

If you like Lars von Trier I highly suggest "Dancer in the Dark" and "The Antichrist" he directed them both, and both are extremely powerful films.

Be advised; the Antichrist has the most graphic vagina mutilation scene I have ever seen, short of Coste's "Holy Mother Trinity" dvd, seeing as how that was real.

Begotten is one of the most graphic films I have ever layed eyes upon. It depicts a horrific scenario between mother nature and god, and their "love child" its on youtube, if you have a weak stomach, you might not wanna watch it.

I watched begotten last night it was quite impressive, absolutely NOT for the weak stomached. Also, angie I haven't seen Dogville, von Trier has captured my attention lately, so I will be sure to check that one out as well.

Where can I see Antichrist? Is it out on dvd? There is a "decent" copy on demonoid if you pirate, its got a water mark throughout the film from the production company that shows up every 20 minutes or so that says "studio copy only" but its a pretty decent rip.

someone must have mentioned Oldboy already, but that movie is very disturbing while still managing to be really, really good.
other than that, Irreversible (probably already mentioned).
but in talking about mainstream hollywood fare, i read an essay about how Alien is basically about male homosexual rape and the ways in which men generally have a primal fear of childbirth and pregnancy. when you watch it within that context, there are a number of scenes that are pretty disturbing (the alien's phallic head bursting through the Kane's chest, the Alien's figure itself, the way it kills the crew, Ridley's fear but lack of understanding of how the Alien operates, etc.) by far one of my all time favorite movies.
i think that theory is very valid, because for some reason dudes have always thought of that movie as being a little bit more disturbing and scary just in terms of content (not shock value, like blood and guts, things popping out, etc.) than most girls have.

Happiness www.imdb.com/title/tt0147612/Think Mysterious Skin w/ Phillip Seymour Hoffman. and if you are really trying to get disturbed, refer back to my initial list of three, one of those films will disturb you I promise, if you are really just looking to have your head fucked with watch Salo' first. You will be very uncomfortable within the first 30 minutes. I would also like to add another suggestion to my list Tetsuo - the Iron man[JPN] - Weird disconnected metal to man film. This will totally fucking brainwash and hypnotize anyone that watches it for about an hour. After doing a little research I discovered that the creators of this film used techniques similar to nazi brainwash tactics. (definitely for fans of Cronenburg, a lovely film of transformation.)

It wasn't nearly as disturbing as I thought it would be, but I looked away during the vagina mutilation scene. Holy shit Lars von Trier really hates women. But its definitely worth watching. If you have netflix you can watch it instantly.

I would also highly suggest Noriko's Dinner Table, not especially gory or anything just an extremely bizarre and emotionally draining concept. (note : both of these movies are very long and involved ie; not something you can just kind of watch, about 4hrs each.) Audition is amazing, if you like it check out also "Ichi the Killer", "Imprint" and pretty much anything else by Takishi Miike.(sp?)

SPOILERS The huge chunk of metal through his leg made me cringe and at least you were warned about the vag mutilation, I watched it on my own by myself very early in the morning. it fucked up my day haha. but all in all, a very emotional and well done film, and I won't tell you agian Dancer in the Dark srsly. get a box of kleenex.

I am checking out those movies about Unit 731. This thread has gotten me hooked on nothing but fucked up films for the time being, but I ruined it by watching Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
