GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS AND MAILORDER
LABEL AND DISTRO UPDATE / JUNE 1, 2011
Hello! It's been a few weeks but we are back with a bunch of killer new records in the webstore ... I also added a ton of GOVERNMENT WARNING t-shirts in the store as well. Before I get to that, there are a couple of tours beginning this week that you need to know about.
DEEP SLEEP will be heading across the Atlantic for their first European tour. Dates are below, please try and make it out if they are playing near you ... you won't regret it as they are definitely a band you need to experience live and it's taken them a good five years to get over so who knows when they'll be back! They should have all of their releases with them including the TURN ME OFF LP (and some sweet new shirt designs as well). Dates are posted at the bottom of this email.
NIGHT BIRDS will also be heading out on tour for a few weeks... they will be stopping off for a few shows at Chaos in Tejas in Austin, TX this weekend, followed immediately by a two week Midwest tour. NIGHT BIRDS have also posted a brand new track, "Landfill Land," from their upcoming LP titles "The Other Side of Darkness." You can check out the song on their Bandcamp page here: night-birds.bandcamp.com/ ... tour dates are listed at the end of this email as well.
GRAVE MISTAKE WEBSTORE: www.gravemistakerecords.com/catalog
First off, as I mentioned, I added a slew of GOVERNMENT WARNING t-shirts to the webstore. Most of these were the leftovers from our February tour. I also found a box of long lost GW shirts from 2006! Most of them were assorted left overs but they are all brand new dead stock t-shirts from about 4 or so years ago ... unfortunately quantities are very limited on both size and design so if you see a shirt you want best to order it right away because it might be the only one available. These will probably be the last time you will be able to buy a lot of these designs and colors.
I also added a handful of year old NIGHT BIRDS t-shirts that I picked up off the band in April 2010 and never got around to putting in the store ... it's a pretty sweet two color design drawn by Brandon Ferrell (GW / Direct Control / No Way fame) that the band no longer sells, so once these are gone, they are gone for good. Only a few left of these as well.
As far as new records go, we've got the brand new debut LP from Richmond's DRY SPELL on new No Way Records "sub-label" VINYL CONFLICT RECORDS. I've got a few copies on colored vinyl (ltd to 100) if you are into that, but not many so grab it quick (and of course plenty of black vinyl when those run out). Definitely pick this LP up and catch DRY SPELL on tour this summer because they are great live too. Also on the new LP front, we've got the brand new LP from Germany's DEAN DIRG ... this band keeps cranking out the hits, definitely pick this up and check out their other releases if you haven't yet. I was also able to score a few copies of the ultra limited 12" from Houston, TX's PMRC.
I've got a ton of great new 7"s as well including the new releases from RAYOS X, CREEM, NAPALM RAID, DEATH FIRST, STOCKPILE, SHORT FUSE, NAUGHTY GIRLS and a bunch more. I was able to pick up a few copies of the limited repress of the classic RIPCORD 'THE DAMAGE IS DONE" 7" (originally released as a flexi) ... a little pricey since it's a UK import, but of course well worth it ... i mean, it's RIPCORD after all ... it's also already sold out from the label. I am also excited to finally have copies of the most recent titles on NO PATIENCE RECORDS out of Australia ... definitely check out the WARCHILDREN, SHOCK VALUE, BLOODCLOT FAGGOTS, and LOGJAMMERS 7"s!!! Finally, I picked up some copies of the US pressing of The Shitty Limits "Yesterday's Heroes" 7" from 2007
A couple of restocks of note from STATIC SHOCK in the UK ... I was able to score a bunch more copies of both the BRAIN F≠ "Restraining Order" 7" as well as the URBAN BLIGHT "Total War" 7" ... both of these records are incredible and are definitely recommended. The Brain F≠ 7" is limited to 500 copies and this will probably be one of the last chances to grab copies in the US so don't forget to pick that up! In semi related news, I found three more copies of the SHITTY LIMITS "Espionage" 7" as well ... I believe this one is OOP and I haven't had it available for a little while, but it's back in the store. Finally, I was lucky enough to grab a few more copies of the awesome NEON CHRIST "Parental Suppression" 7" reissue (semi-legit). A definite must have, 80's hc classic and this reissue is done well all around.
Finally, on the zine front I picked up the newest issue of ACHTUNG zine and the newest issue of NO THANKS zine out of Chicago (formerly known as NO THANKS FUCK EVERYTHING) ... another solid issue worth every penny of your hard earned cash. And if you haven't picked up the newest issues of GOT MYSELF and COUNTERFEIT GARBAGE, I restocked on both of those as well.
That's all for now ... I've got a ton more distro stuff headed my way over the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled for future updates. Also, two new LPs have been sent off to the plant this past week so expect updates on the NIGHT BIRDS LP and BRAIN F≠ LP in the very near future. Thanks for reading!

NEW RELEASES 6/1/2011:
DRY SPELL "S/T" LP (VINYL CONFLICT)
DRY SPELL's one of richmond, VA's hardest working Punk/HC bands at the moment, and this lp definetly shows them at their peak. Their previous 2 7"es were good, But this is EXCELLENT! Driving mid tempo punk to full on Hardcore with tune-age that immediately gets stuck in your head. The best thing really about DRY SPELL is you can't pidgeon hole them into one genre of HC Punk or the other. You can hear influence from Feel the Darkness era Poison Idea, Mid Tempo parts of Jerry's Kids Is this my World and earlier, Maybe throw in some Turbonegro, some Late 70's KBD Punk and 70's Rock all at the same time. It's really for you to determine for yourself. To us the music should sell itself. Just check out the MP3 on the front page. This lp is 10 great songs, None of them too long to keep your interest, all the while at 45 rpms and LOUD! Recorded/Mastered at MINIMUM WAGE Studios (Government warning, Direct Control, Cloak Dagger, the ladies, Southside Stranglers so many countless others!) by Lance Koehler, What a guy he is! You know it's gonna sound good when it comes through those doors.
RAYOS X "SUFRIMIENTO" 7" (DAMAGING NOISE)
Follow up to the very well received 1st EP released on Lengua Armada Records last year. Rayos X bring 3 more tracks of insanely catchy, snotty raw punk from Los Angeles. Influences ranging from Eskorbuto to GBH and everything in between, everyone is sure to find something to love about this EP!
RIPCORD "THE DAMAGE IS DONE" 7" (BOSS TUNEAGE)
“The Damage Is Done” was the debut release by UK Hardcore punk legends RIPCORD. Self released as a flexi disc, this release is widely regarded as a seminal UK Hardcore debut. Now, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first release, “THE DAMAGE IS DONE” is now reissued on 7” that won’t crease! This limited edition hard vinyl re-issue features a fold out cover like the original, and represents the first time these recordings have been available on hard vinyl 7” format! Nine killer tracks of original UK hardcore punk!
CREEM "GOOD RIDDANCE" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
Members of Nomos and Natural Law combine forces to being you the best Boston band not from Boston. The band plays early 80s style hardcore not unlike Last Rights or other Choke projects with a heavy dose of Blitz influence in there. These two songs are their newest and best material to date, with no clear winner emerging between the hardened "Good Riddance" and the anthemic B-side of "I Hate You." This is the first of a planned series of 7" singles for the band.
SHITTY LIMITS "YESTERDAY'S HEROES" 7" (MOTORCHEST)
Originally released in 2007 by the band as a limited run of 220, this six song single from one of the UK's best was repressed in the US a few years later ... a few more copies (500 to be exact), these are the last of em so don't miss out again!
NAPALM RAID "TRAIL OF THE WORLD" 7" (RUST AND MACHINE)
After their debut 7" came out in March, which is nearly sold out, Here is the second 7" from Halifax, Nova Scotia's NAPALM RAID. Taking their raw mix of DOOM, ANTI-CIMEX, and DISCHARGE influences a step further with an improved recording showing the way they were meant to sound. the raw D-beat crust you crave is all here, with their own take on it making it catchy and memorable. If that was not enough this four song 7" includes a cover of 'misery' from Japan's BASTARD! limited to 500 copies, but i have less than half of the pressing for distribution so don't slack!
NAUGHTY GIRLS "BAD HABITS" 7" (BAD VIBRATIONS)
Naughty Girls debut 7 inch "Bad Habits" is out now on School Jerk Luke "Weiner's" new Bad Vibrations label - great timeless snotty loose mid tempo punk, reminicent of Sick Pleasure or Chickenhead.
SHOCK VALUE "YELLOW PERIL" 7" (NO PATIENCE)
The Australian hardcore version of the Partridge Family, SHOCK VALUE are comprised of 2 brothers, a sister, and a cousin - all immigrants from Laos (near Vietnam). Self described as 'the only embryonic all-asian band in the country playing punk music and getting rowdy', SOCK VALUE play straight up 80s style hardcore in the vein of SSD, THE ABUSED, and VERBAL ABUSE. All in high school at the time of this recording, the drummer was only 13 when the band started, SHOCK VALUE have finally recorded this 6 track debut 7" following a highly sought after demo from a few years back. Gruff straight forward hardcore punk from the land down under.
WARCHILDREN "S/T" 7" (NO PATIENCE)
Originally starting as a rowdy mob of kids emerging from the sweaty tropics of north-eastern Australia the WARCHILDREN as they called themselves were regular mischief makers at shows throwing bottles, getting drunk, and scrawling 'WARCHILDREN' on the backs of their jackets. Made up of primarily high school kids, this gang of loud-mouthed 80s HC worshipping teens eventually reached the obvious conclusion, cut the fat, and turned their gang into a band - WARCHILDREN. Featuring members of INSURGENTS, TEARGAS, and BIG MESS, WARCHILDREN play manic hardcore for fans of UNITED MUTATION and CHEETAH CHROME MOTHERFUCKERS. Snotty and obnoxious, this 7" kills with its cult 80s HC vibe. Some real 'killed by hardcore' kind of shit here.
BLOODCLOT FAGGOTS "S/T" 7" (NO PATIENCE)
Named after a quote from the infamous love letter from the Bad Brains to the Big Boys, this is the debut 7" from BLOODCLOT FAGGOTS. Moronic punk from Australia made by straightedge zit pickers. The sounds of sexual frustration. For fans of DEVO, OUT WITH A BANG, FORMALDAHYDE JUNKIES, BROWN SUGAR, H100s, and THE ROLLING STONES. 8 tracks of mongoloid hardcore punk mixing 80s hardcore with elements of surf guitar and rock n roll. Idiot pop for 2010. Demo tape review from TERMINAL BOREDOM:"'Total busted-vein squeals a la H-100s grace a more ‘core interpretation of subversive city rock like Shoot It Up. It’s possible we’ve finally stumbled upon a new Out With A Bang, only they can’t sing as much about blowing lines for days straight as they can being genetically subpar Aussie asshats getting their wieners caught in shampoo bottles."
LOGJAMMERS "S/T" 7" (NO PATIENCE)
Named after the porno in The Big Lebowski - this shortlived bunch of Brisbane guys and gals got together at the start of 2010 to put a hardcore tilt on the Australian murder-punk sound. Taking influence from the PSYCHO SURGEONS, BABEEZ, and the SICK THINGS but injecting a hefty dose of noize and idiocy, this is truly the sound of irritation. 3 tracks of noisy catchy Australian punk. Equal parts addictive and annoying. Play loud and throw things. If you dig groups like the UV RACE and EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING this is the most noisy and retarded output from that school of thought. Mixed and mastered by Mikey Young from EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING, TOTAL CONTROL and THE OOGA BOOGAS. This will appeal as much to fans of garage punk as it will those who dig noize punk in the vein of WANKYS etc.
CARNIVORES "GERMAN FLOWER" 7" (DIRT CULT)
Venus zine said of this band, “At times, Carnivores are nostalgic, reminiscent of garage bands of the 60s, but at other times, the grimy melodic oddballs bounce quickly to distortion, delving deep into a psychedelic coma laced with vibrant tones, sweet screeches, and shifty time signatures.” I was gonna say “dark, psychedelic, surfy, jangly, garage rock from Atlanta,” but that seems like too many adjectives. Regardless, this record is good!
SHORT FUSE / CHUCK DAMAGE - SPLIT 7" (HARDWARE)
Two of Münster's notorious bastards team up for whiplash a of a split. Each three songs, clocking in just under 5 minutes and their best to date. Forget about NEGATIVE APPROACH'S lame ass rehearsal shits effort on TAANG. Buy this instead! Hammering Hardcore Punk the way it was meant to sound!
STOCKPILE "S/T" 7" (DESTROY ME)
Debut 7" raging D-beat from this Philadelphia band featuring members of Witch Hunt, Stations, Sickoids and more.
DEFECT DEFECT / YOUR PEST BAND / GROANING GROOVE - SPLIT 7" (SNUFFY SMILES)
Titled "Puke & Destroy" this 3-way split 7" gives you two doses from each band. Your Pest Band continue to play language barriered Replacements punk. Defect Defect blend some humor and melody into their straight-forward hardcore sound. And Groaning Groove (Japan's best hardcore band? Yoichi says so.) unleash some walloping, aggravated jams.
HOLY SHIT! / YOUR PEST BAND - SPLIT 7" (SNUFFY SMILES)
Holy Shit ejaculates 4 fast new in your face punk jams that will leave you breathless and wanting more! Your Pest Band delivers two new songs and brings a style of Japanese pop punk that is catchy as fuck! This 7" will make your record player smile!
VACCUUM "S/T" 7" (LEUNGA ARMADA)
Five tracks of screech-and-squall soaked hardcore from the Bay Area. Unlike a lot of what's happening now, it's not another Kyushyu-a-like clone here. Just simple hardcore that covers all ground from mid-paced to blazing through the course of this EP with feedback bleeding from every pore. Nods to all times and places throughout the history of hardcore punk without sounding like anything specific.
SCHIZOPHASIA "II" 7" (DAMAGING NOISE)
The 2nd of 2 simultaneously released ep's by Schizophasia which features members of Germ Attak playing noise punk comparable to Gai, Confuse and other Japanese greats while still maintaining the classic Disorder/Uk82 fell which Germ Attak is known for. All this chaos is blended and mixed together with ear shattering noise, loops and samples leaning towards power electronics with an end result that is like nothing you've heard before. An odd combination, with even stranger artwork, be warned that this is not your typical raw punk release!
TROOPS OF TOMORROW "S/T" 7" (PHOTOBOOTH)
Washington DC's Troops of Tomorrow offer up 3 crude tracks of mean Oi inspired USHC, not unlike past DC heroes 86 Mentality.
GERM ATTAK "ZAPATISTA" 7" (WHISPER IN DARKNESS)
The 2nd release features 5 tracks of noisy political, destructing hardcore-punk from Canadas GERM ATTACK. This is an unrepentant display of musical ineptitude! GERM ATTACK taking their cue from old british bands like CHAOS UK and DISORDER.
DEATH FIRST "S/T" 7" (DESTROY ME)
Debut 7" release, both for the label and the band.Melodic, heavy hardcore from New York, with a sound rooted in Scandicrust, this 7" pummels through 5 songs with ferocious riffs and urgent, impassioned vocals. Deeply personal lyrics add to the sense of desperation throughout all the songs. Released just in time for their Spring South+Midwest tour last year, this EP is an impressive start for a fucking determined new band. 2 sided hand-screened jackets
DEATH FIRST "TRAPPED" 7" (DESTROY ME)
On this their 2nd 7" EP, DEATH FIRST sound even more intense and pummeling than before. Heavier riffs and relentless drumming set the pace for Jessy's pissed fucking vocals. With songs ranging in subject matter from her disgust of the rise in apathy within the scene to dealing with the abusive, manipulative partners, this EP is more brutal in every way. They followed up their spring tour with a West Coast tour this winter and will have an interview in MRR within the next month or so. 2 color hand-screened glued jackets.
HOLOCAUST IN YOUR HEAD / BLACK PANDA - SPLIT 7" (RUST AND MACHINE)
HIYH from Barcelona lay down two tracks of catchy Motorhead esque crust. driving, chugging, dual vocal punk that works the verse/chorus way better than most. like their record mates, this is super rocking outsider punk. Black Panda are a bit heavy and you can tell there's even more dirty ROCK inside these guys. being a fan of hard rock and crust/dbeat, i totally back this new spanish "motor-crust". dbeat you can sink your teeth into. It was only a matter of time before these two excellent Spanish bands team up for a split, so here it is. Punk, Hardcore and rock on lethal doses. BLACK PANDA features members of MADAME GERMEN, NASHGUL and SL'S3 among others, while HOLOCAUST IN YOUR HEAD features members of TOTALICKERS, DISFACE and DISUNDEAD. comes in a full color sleeve w/insert. pressing of 1000 with the first 400 on trans green vinyl.
PMRC "POLITICS MORALITY RELIGION CASH" LP (MOTORCHEST)
"The "lost album" by this band who come from the incestuous Houston scene, where it seems as though everyone is in a dozen bands. This three piece dish out rockin’ punk with hardcore touches and smart topical lyrics. But they reach into other musical regions, as well, such as on the moody “Civilized Vultures.” Songs like “Get Away From Me,” “Mass Infection” and “Leaders of the Free World” slam in a Big Boys-ish manner although Mike Grayum’s vocal style is throaty and beefier (for want of a better term). They wrap it up with a cover of Cracked Actor’s infamous “Nazi School.” As with other Houston bands (The Energy, No Talk, Secret Prostitutes), punk is used a starting point but the PMRC refuse to fit any strict mold. Some heavy vinyl, too—210 gram!—and tucked inside a screened cover. Limited to a one-time pressing of 200 copies. " - SUBURBAN VOICE
DEAN DIRG "VERPISST" LP (HARDWARE)
After 4 years finally a new sign from everyone's darlings - DEAN DIRG. "verpisst" deliver 11 (8x punk blast plus 3x elektro) more punk-hardcore rippers. Raw guitars, gang vocals, and furious (yet somewhat danceable) drum beats in the classic DEAN DIRG tradition - somewhere between the CIRCLE JERKS and a less coked-out JAY REATARD, danceable DEVO and HENRY FIATS OPEN SORE.
DERROTA "ASKO INFINITO" LP (RUST AND MACHINE)
US pressing of this LP of these tireless punks from Valencia, Spain. which in a way summarizes and condenses the 5 years of existence and its evolution as a band. With a crust influenced punk-rock base, they mix elements from death-rock or post-punk making the whole sound very solid, original and outstanding. Political nihilism and social rancour on their lyrics, filthily beautiful artwork. Alltogether, a fine work of modern punk. More raw than their previous efforts with an almost more "crudos" style feel to their guitar. featuring a LARSEN cover. includes a 20 page booklet with lots of artwork and lyrics translated in Spanish, French, German and English. every white sleeve has hand stamped logos. check out their previous splits with LEADERSHIT, HORROR and AMBULANCE.
END OF ALL "THE ART OF DECADENCE" LP (RUST AND MACHINE)
The second full length album from this dark Swedish crustcore band totally lays to waste their previous LP with these twelve lengthy new tracks featuring Frank from WOLFPACK on drums. Musically this is thickly-layered guitar-blazing hardcore punk, built over a galloping d-beat tempo (yet with interesting variations) and crowned with desperately angry vocals. For those who need a more spelled-out reference; there are strong hints of WOLFBRIGADE, MASSMORD, and TRAGEDY in their sound, with Hints of AT THE GATES and ENTOMBED. The lyrics are predominantly in English, but some are in Swedish, covering a lot of ground subject-wise and come from a pain-filled and desperate perspective. The recording is expertly handled at Hobo Records in Jönköping and has massive sound. From the epic intro Age of the Serpents, to the finale Sista Vilan, this album truly delivers the goods
BONE AWL "MEANINGLESS LEANING MESS" LP (NUCLEAR WAR NOW)
"The Novato boys return with their first full-length record. Much in the vein of the Not for Our Feet and Up To Something tapes, the duo of Gnashes Teeth and Crushes Teeth wield drums and guitar in rusted permutations of punk and minimalist black metal: A scrap heap ensemble that provokes and finally overpowers. It's repetitive and unconcerned, second-hand and beginning again. The only major difference now is they’ve replaced the stills of Artaud’s disembodied head with dark cathedrals, faceless puppets, and excerpts from Robert Chambers’ early book of weird, The King in Yellow. Voegtlin calls their music the first you can “drink, fight, and fuck to,” in the space of one day. To be sure, the inner sleeve’s advice to "try and be still" is about as reassuring as it would be if heard on the Satyricon tour bus. And from Oi! to Ildarn, you know all the musical comparisons already. Unlike their hermetic forbearer, however, Bone Awl’s crude marches roll outside of the wreckage, skillfully incorporating the aftermath back into song. Their comparatively thoughtful, systemic drum patterns and harmonic rakes are not metaphors for some primordial darkness. Nor or they the voice of builders, but of a wrecking crew razing speaker fragments down into the dirt, migraines ringing on afterward. " -THELEFTHANDPATH.COM
DAN PADILLA "AS THE OX PLOWS" LP (DIRT CULT)
Fucking finally! This record has been available in digital format for what seems like forever, but it's finally seeing a proper release. The Ox Plows features 12 songs of amazing, gruff but cuddly, honest punk rock from these San Diego veterans. Featuring members of Tiltwheel, Altaira, Bloodbath and Beyond, and Madison Bloodbath.
CREDENTIALS, THE "GOOCHER" LP (DIRT CULT)
In a time when it's not only accepted but seemingly encouraged and even applauded for underground independent bands to get their music licensed for video games, car commercials, energy drink sponsorships and shit knows what else, it's nice to know some bands still stand against all that big deal bullshit. The Credentials are one of those bands. Ideals aren't dead and neither is punk. "Goocher" is the band's second album and it's stacked full of anthems shouted out against the bullshit we all see and deal with in day to day life. They don't get all preachy or pretentious with it either. They sing from the heart and go for the guts on every track. Musically The Credentials fall somewhere between the east bay sound of the '90s not unlike Crimpshrine and Pinhead Gunpowder and more modern bands like Chinese Telephones and Witches With Dicks. Mix all that up with a little '77 street punk style and crunchy pop punk jams and that's how "Goocher" is gonna rock you!
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #337 - JUNE 2011
Another issue of Maximum Rocknroll is hot off the presses. MRR #337, the June 2011 issue, features an interview with one of the architects of punk, John Morton of electric eels and amongst other bands, discussing his Cleveland punk days and artwork. We talk to Zack Carlson and Bryan Connolly who put together the amazing recently published Destroy All Movies!!! book, an exhaustive study of punks on the silver screen (and straight to VHS!). And don’t miss our interviews with Finnish hardcore champs YDINPERHE, doom inflected crust punk NUX VOMICA from Portland, Oakland mutants UZI RASH, Southern California psyche-punks WHITE FENCE, and Swedish garage stompers BLACK FEET. Plus, we have a look at the life and struggle of Russian anti-fascist activist “Vanya Kostolom” Khutorskoy, who was tragically murdered by Nazis at age 26; a Buffalo, NY scene report, and a look at a 1980s HC flyer archive in New Orleans: From Stapleguns to Thumbtacks. All of this madness along with the most extensive review section in punk rock, and all the columnists you love to hate!
NO THANKS ZINE - ISSUE #7
Formerly known as No Thanks Fuck Everything, Mike returns with the latest issue including interviews with Lebenden Toten and Los Crudos, a restrospective on Antisect, features on some underappreciated UK82 and 90s HC gems, a retrospective piece on Mike's old record label a Wrench in the Gears, and tons more of the smart, sophisticated content Mike is known for. I'd say this is the best issue yet, completely jam-packed with content and thought-provoking as always.
ACHTUNG ZINE - ISSUE #4
Newest issue of this half size rocknroll fanzine from Memphis, TN. Features interviews with CHEAP TIME, TY SEGALL, and THE UV RACE. Also includes an updated Memphis scene report a few record reviews thrown in for good measure. Half size, 20 pages.
TRENCH ROT - DEMO TAPE
Brand new demo tape from this souther california band . This comes off as modern d-beat like Disfear or Victims meets "Feel The Darkness" Poison Idea. Great debut.
MINORITY BLUES BAND "MOMENTARY BEAUTIFUL BURNOUT" CD (SNUFFY SMILES)
"A collection of outtakes, comp tracks, and split releases bundled into one release for your listening pleasure. And you will get much pleasure from this record, I promise you, my friends. Jagged guitars, vocals that veer in and out of Squirrel Bait country, and rock-solid song structures overall. “Metaphysical Burst” is my favorite song title here, but there really isn’t a full on clunker to harp on about. Bass lines bubble along with consistency, drums supply the back beat without being overwrought, and the guitars mesh pretty seamlessly with the vocals. A great power trio that should be missed by many, but, hopefully, this release will be enjoyed by more than a few." - RAZORCAKE
MINORITY BLUES BAND "CAPITALIZED SUFFERING" CD (SNUFFY SMILES)
"I reviewed the songs on this CD for the last issue of Razorcake, but for some unexplained reason, I put the title of the Minority Blues Band’s first album. That was a mistake on my part. Sorry about that. Anyway, here’s what I have to say about Capitalized Suffering. Rule number one: Japanese punk rockers play their instruments better than American punk rockers. Rule number two: everything Snuffy Smile Records releases is fucking awesome. Rule number three: well, it’s not so much a rule, but pick up this fucking album already. If you like Leatherface, Hüsker Dü, and the Replacements, you won’t be disappointed. And, yes, I realize that Leatherface, Hüsker Dü, and the Replacements don’t have all that much in common with each other, but Minority Blues Band has a lot in common with all three." - RAZORCAKE
NAVEL "DEPEND" CD (SNUFFY SMILES)
"For a not-very-famous band, I keep thinking that Leatherface must be huge in Gainesville and parts of Tokyo, because I’ve gotten so many albums from Gainesville’s No Idea records and Tokyo’s Snuffy Smile records that take so much from Leatherface that they should pay Frankie royalties. Not that I’m complaining. All rock bands and punk bands are just playing out variations on a theme. And when that theme comes from Leatherface’s madness and melody, it usually makes me happy. I don’t say this to pigeonhole Navel as a Leatherface cover band, but Leatherface is definitely the starting point. From there, they play with touches of 7 Seconds-like hardcore and Hüsker Dü sonic stylings. It all blends together pretty well." -RAZORCAKE
