this bbq bucker, is it 2 or 4 wire? I have a pretty old dp100 in my flying v thats been in there forever. I'm looking for a new pickup for a slash model bc rich but I need a 4 wire to use all the controls

i have no idea, its currently in my aria pro II and i didnt plan on taking it out until i found a swap for it, but i would assume its 2 wire even though whoever installed it did some really funky stuff that i havent figured out yet because i dont have two volumes and two tones [one for each pickup] like i should. i'll dive into it when i get back home and see what it is though. whats the difference in controls, coiltapping? now you got me interested as fuck

It is an excellent pickup whether its 2 or 4 wires. Honestly, I cant imagine a dp100 sounding any better than a bbq bucker...but I love my super distortion all the same. Yes, 4 wires allows you to tap the coils to split the humbucker into separate single coils. you can also wire it out of phase with your neck pickup for a funky quacky sound. My slash tribute originally had all kinds of options until the pickup got ripped out and replaced with an emg 81 for reasons i cant explain on the forum....

its okay, i have about four guitars worth of emg 81/85 setups hangin out that i could go back to, but am trying not to. i really just want a pickup that will make me have as much breakup as possible. i think i may have figured out how to get that kind of power from the bbq but its yet to be tested.

If its breakup you are looking for, I would lean on a ceramic magnet. My les paul with Gibson 500T breaks up as much or more than the super distortion in my v. You definitely want to have 500k pots to get the full whack of your humbuckers
