GRAVE MISTAKE RECORDS / MAILORDER
LABEL AND WEBSTORE UPDATE - 6.21.13
It's been a little while since my last webstore update, so there is a ton of incredible new stuff here and I'll get to that shortly. First off, I've got a (semi) new release now available, a US pressing of the KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7"! This Toronto band's debut EP, which came out last year on Germany's Hardware Records, is a total ripper and one that everyone should check out ... and with international shipping rates constantly on the rise, it seems harder and harder to keep "imports" in stock these days (and at an affordable price). With that, and the release of the band's "Drunk in the Gulag" LP which came out on Beach Impediment / Bad Vibrations Records a few months back, we felt that it was good idea to do a North American pressing of the 7" to get it onto as many turntables as possible over here in the US and Canada.

I'll be quick with my other label news, expect a full update next week though! First off, COKE BUST is currently one week into a two month tour that will take them all across the US and then to EUROPE, and you can check out all of those dates at cokebust.com ... We managed to get the band a few tour copies of their brand new "Confined" 12", so pick it up if you see them! That record will hopefully be officially out in early August (and possibly much sooner in Europe on Refuse Records).
In more recent news, we've got the NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP right around the corner! Release date is July 9th, and so far we are on schedule to have the record out around that time. A lot of people have been asking when this record will go up for order/preorder ... at the moment I really can't say but I'm shooting to make it available for mailorder the first week of July (fingers crossed)! The RED DONS "Notes on the Underground" 7" will also hopefully see the light of day late July / Early August BUT we've already got some tour copies for the band so check them out next month and grab one of the singles! Finally ... my apologies to the wonderful BRAIN F≠ for completely forgetting to mention their upcoming "EMPTY SET" LP in last month's update (you know, the one where I told you about all of my upcoming releases EXCEPT for this one) ... whoops. But yes, the band's second LP is currently being mastered and will once again be a co-release with Sorry State Records. More info on that in the coming months, but the band has posted a rough track from the new LP over at brainflannel.bandcamp.com/ so check it out!

Bradock PA's premier Straight Edge band return for 2013 with their debut lp, expanding the scope of their previous 7", and continuing their dignified retrofit of darker late 80's NYHC for the darker still 20-teens. Recorded by the band in their own rehearsal compound, these songs weave through the crooked landscape of modern day anomie, dehumanization, and personal betrayal the way In-Effect era Killing Time and Sick Of It All did before them.
VIOLENT REACTION "CITY STREETS" LP (PAINKILLER)
One-man army Tom Pimlott arrives direct from Liverpool, England with an lp that splits the difference between early 80's US and UK hardcore with the kind of seamlessness and taste that escapes most bands. Whereas the original X-Claim crew took the British Hardcore of the day and twisted it to fit their post Minor Threat, townie world view, Violent Reaction takes the X-Claim sound and injects a tasteful dash of '82 style British Hardcore. This might be the best record of this style to come from the UK since the first Voorhees lp.
KROMOSOM "NUCLEAR REICH" LP (DISTORT REALITY)
Newest LP from Melbourne, Australia Raw-punk/D-beat Punx! Latest installment of noise drenched hardcore power from these Australian Ragers, one of the best live hardcore bands anywhere, catch them if you can.
CREEM "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (STATIC SHOCK)
Released to co-incide with Creem's Summer 2013 European tour. This lp compiles their S/T 12" ep , the 'Good Riddance / I Hate You' 7" and the demo tape (all of Creem's released material up to the brand new 'Curator' ep.) Infusing their beloved American hardcore with a smattering of punk virility from over the years, Creem is hard punk for hard punk fans. Remastered for vinyl by Will Killingsworth (Vaccine, Ampere, Orchid) and housed in all new artwork. This lp is a one time pressing of 518 copies. UK IMPORT!
HOAX "COLLECTED" LP (ADAGIO 830)
Buzz-saw guitars, bludgeoning drums, and breakdowns that scream "kiss me on my bloody head." They are the defenders of true hardcore spite and genuine danger. Mosh-heavy songs of empowerment and anger are forged using a degraded distillation of vintage Alan Blake-style riffing backed with driving, militaristic drums, and the feral anomie typically reserved for a vocalist like Mike IX Williams. BAD NOIDS "EVERYTHING FROM SOUP TO DESSERT" LP (KATORGA WORKS)
Clearly an unsavory product of the dilapidated industrial wasteland of Cleveland, Bad Noids make their official vinyl debut after a difficult-to-acquire bootleg 7". This record is a collection of older and newer songs, all rerecorded/recorded to caveman perfection in what is the defining document of Bad Noids, thus far. This is the new school of Clevocore. Comes with a 11"x14" full color poster courtesy of White Tony.
GAS RAG "HUMAN RIGHTS" 7" (BEACH IMPEDIMENT)
Chicago sex punks GAS RAG are back with six tracks of hardcore punk for the masses. Recorded during the same session that yielded the critically acclaimed 2013 demo, the “HUMAN RIGHTS” EP is sure to tickle the collective fancy of those who were stimulated by the aforementioned demo tape. Blending elements of D-Beat rock based music and a bit of their own Midwestern flavor, GAS RAG gives Earth's freaks the perfect summer soundtrack to go along nicely with their inhalants and/or any other substances that one would deem fit.
CREEM "CURATOR" 7" (STATIC SHOCK)
New York's Creem return in 2013 with a brand new 4 track ep. Keeping with their now trademark sound of Boston influenced hardcore punk with touches of UK82, there are now additional touches of Kings Of Punk-era Poison Idea in the mix, especially on the title track. Everyone who writes label release descriptions love dropping stuff like this, but this is honestly their strongest material yet. First press of 620 copies.
NIGHT BIRDS "MAIMED FOR THE MASSES" 7" (FAT WRECK)

Four London weirdos are back offering a third helping of HARDCORE UK style comprised of rhythmic diarrhea, the most explosive kind, with jugular rumbles topped with screaming banshee guitars. TENEMENT "SICK CLUB VOL. 3" 7" (COWABUNGA)
Here's the 3rd volume of the Sick Nick Club series which is by none other then the 3 wonder boys of Wisconsin, TENEMENT. 2 brand new tracks exclusive to this 7'' single- A side written by Jesse and the B side written by Amos. A side is a more traditional 1-2 foot tapping, catchy as hell Tenement standard where the B side is a very off kilter, poppy alt rock sort of track. Its totally a Tenement song, but its also a 1st for them in this style too. 1 time press of 500, housed in a hand assembled, full color glue pocket cover to boot!
REPOS, THE "SICK CLUB VOL. 4" 7" (COWABUNGA)
The 4th volume of the Sick Club series is filled by Chicago's own local legends THE REPOS. I feel by now I don't need to explain who this band is and what they sound like so know I am not going to. If you know and follow even just decent HC at all in the last so many years, you'd at least just know who this band is. After breaking up in 2008, but re-emerging in late 2010 as a new band called THE ROPES, the band quietly released some demos and a 7'' upon the world. Come sometime in later 2012, the band name 'THE ROPES' was already taken by some crap band from Rhode Island who of course threatened legal action since they couldn't cut it themselves and were too ego struck to let it be taken, so the guys went back to using the old REPOS moniker once more. These are 2, brand new EXCLUSIVE tracks on this Sick Nick Club 7'' aka 'Armed and Using' and 'Hole In the Hill', and like the others in the series a 1 time press of 500 copies with no repress, records are nestled in a hand assembled glue pocket cover too designed by Chicago art stalwart Ryan Lowry.
DEATH AFTER DECAY "SYSTEM FUCKING BASTARDS" 7" (COWABUNGA)
The newest output from this Hammond,Indiana anarchist HC punk band. Musically, this record is more PUNK and a little less rockin' then the 1st one but still what I call a 'traditional DxAxDx record'. If I had to make comparisons, I'd say this one where a generic description is still apt- Varukers and Discharge crossed w early Inepsy, GBH, Guns N Roses, Burning Spirits style Japanese HC and Violent Society with slight midwestern flair.
TECHNICOLOR TEETH "SAGE" 7" (COWABUNGA)
I knew my boy Amos had drummed in bands such as Paul Collins Beat and Chinese Telephones to name but a few. Then apart from his freakishly godlike guitar skills he showcases in his certain 3 piece band by the name of Tenement, that he remains more of a drummer. TT released a tape only album 'Teenage Pagans' in 2012 (may or may not see its vinyl treatment via Houseplant in 2013?) on Lets Pretend based out of Bloomington, Indiana (and home to Paul Mahern!). I had seen the band in 2011 at a Bored Straight/Leather show and fell in love there, but it wasn't until I obtained the cassette album that I had asked to do a record then knowing these guys had done something of a release. These 3 Wisconsin lads play a great shoegaze/DIY indie rock hybrid but its also very catchy, not just mired in 'dreamy' territory like most bands of the genre and thankfully done very PUNK. I mean, you can probably gather something what they sound like just from those explanatory words I imagine so I'll leave that there. Each 1 of the 3 members wrote a song here on this 3 song EP too, where each has a different feel to it which makes it so much better.
VIOLENT REACTION "S/T" 7" (MINDROT)
US Pressing!! Following a promising demo last year, Liverpool's Violent Reaction finally release their debut 7" ep. Six tracks of undiluted hardcore punk that are more influenced by Discharge, Poison Idea, Out Cold and Blitz than the likes of Youth Of Today, VR is for those who like their straight edge hardcore a little more antisocial.Originally started as a one man project by Tom Pimlott (Sectarian Violence, Nowhere Fast), VR is now playing live with members of Stab and Abolition backing him up.
WARXGAMES "9 TRAX/NO NIGHTMARE" 7" (REACT)
The darker, dirtier, weirder older brother of the Baltimore Straight Edge makes its debut on REACT! with 9 raw and raging blasts of hardcore psychosis slammed wall to wall into a 7"EP. Featuring members of MINDSET, DEEP SLEEP,OAK and THE PIST (among others), WARXGAMES pulls from all corners of the hardcorepunkmetal universe and meets not necessarily in the middle, but somewhere else entirely Straight Edge. For fans of Infest, The Abused, Brotherhood and MDHC Legends VOID.
BORN WRONG "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
BORN WRONG turns out four new tracks reminiscent of early DC hardcore with a modern punch. They hail from Hamilton, Canada (not Toronto). Aggressive vocals, gritty tone, caveman drumming. Hating cops and spitting in your face. Watch out for these guys touring the East Coast U.S. in May.
TV FREAKS "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
The TV FREAKS listen to a lot of Australian punk, and that ranges from new upstarts – EDDY CURRENT SUPRESSION RING to the classic, killed by death, bank account drainer they take their namesake from. And just like Victims, Hamilton’s TV FREAKS are busting at the seams with energy and spit. TV FREAKS do a great job of taking some classic and modern influences to come up with their own unique and fresh sound. This is pure punk rock that looks better in blood on a guitar than spray painted on a leather jacket and I’m sure if the gods of good taste get off their asses you’ll see both.

CLARITY "UNSTOPPABLE" 7" (NEGATIVE SPLIT)
The latest musical effort from this Seattle straight edge outfit. Drawing sonic influence from the likes of Right Brigade and Carry On, Clarity forge five introspective and urgent hardcore jams in a style that is all their own. Northwest credentials include members from Not Sorry, Vanguard, and the Answer. Vinyl includes a digital download code.
FRIENDS OF CESAR ROMERO "RED HEADED STRANGER" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
With the shake of a tambourine and a quake of the pelvis, the pop-art garage-punks known as the Friends Of Cesar Romero have crash-landed. Featuring members of such hook-infused outfits as The Reddmen, Mandingo, and Stereotyperider, FOCR have devolved the electric-guitar beat-combo into a thing of pants-shitting Neanderthal beauty. Pounding, menacing, snarling, and unaccustomed to our flowery futuristic bullshit, the gang’s anthemic, King Kahn-esque, Saturday-morning-cartoonish onslaught is ready to biff-bang-pow its way into your heart. And/or crotch.
EMPTY PALACE "S/T" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
Some say Judas Priest lost their metal-lovin’ minds when they decided to let synthesizers seep into their sound circa 1985’s Turbo. Empty Palace could not care less. The Los Angeles outfit takes classic metal songcraft, NWOBHM bombast, and the chiseled precision of Reagan (Thatcher?) Era stadium rock—then they ram it down your unsuspecting throat. But frontman Patrick Houston and drummer Jason Walker (formerly of Denver legends Brainhammer and Angels Never Answer, among sundry other acts of sonic tomfoolery) don’t stop there. Lo and behold, the group’s debut EP blends the mythopoeic majesty of ’80s Blue Öyster Cult—yeah, the new-wave sounding stuff that’s way, way better than you remember—with melody, dynamism, and even hints of balladry. Like the iron fist of an android knight, it pummels with the single-minded purity of deathless life. Call it turbo-injected, if you wish.

ESTROGEN HIGHS "FOR ALL I KNOW" 7" (SOUTHPAW)
Estrogen Highs peaked a lot of interest recently with their sophmore LP "Friends and Relatives" and this four song EP quickly follows that up. This release much like their recent LP brings to mind a wide variety of influnces including The Wipers, Guided By Voices, and Kiwi-style pop. A new LP coming on Chicago's Trouble In Mind later this year. Limited to 300 copies!
HACKMORE BRICK "OH! THOSE SWEET BANANAS" 7" (UGLY POP)
Hackamore Brick's sole 1970 LP on Kama Sutra remains a much-desired artifact of its era, a primordial expression of seminal proto-punk and early Velvets worship. While there are several great tracks on the LP, it's long been my opinion that Oh! Those Sweet Bananas was criminally over-looked and should really have been a 45 from the start. One of the great lost songs of the period, it's a quick, catchy and instantly addictive burst of NYC garage punk pop at the dawn of the '70s. The flip is a beautiful and memorable slow-burner, and a different take to that on the LP. A slight change of pace for Ugly Pop, but a long-time favourite that anyone with good taste will appreciate. New picture sleeve, one-time-only pressing of 500 copies.
NO MISTAKE "CONNECT THE DOTS" 7" (REFUSE)
Once upon a time hardcore had no metal influence. It was as poppy as homicide. Great dinosaurs roamed the earth with names like SSD, YDI, Jerry's Kids, Negative Approach, and so on. You could honestly feel the bands were actually straining themselves terribly if the song made it to TWO WHOLE MINUTES?!?!?!?! This sounds EXACTLY like that. You aren’t going to make guitar poses, fall in love, dance in a quirky cute manner. Yer gonna SLAM and yer gonna dig it. Good production, straight ahead attack hard core, just like your mamma used to cook up. Featuring members of GO! NYHC, In Disgust and Permanent Ruin.
FULL SUN "STAY AWAKE" 7" (LET'S PRETEND)
"Jeff Grant’s solo project. Like the last Pink Razors LP, things are slowed down to accentuate songwriting chops. Results are like a ‘80s teen movie montage recorded at home. Think sunny, Future Virgins, power pop-inflected pop punk, Exploding Hearts vocals, and some Superchunk thrown in. Full Sun? How about Full length! Keep it coming, Jeff." -RAZORCAKE

PDX Spanish-language hardcore likened to a Latin Totalitar, with ex-members of Hellshock on board.

"Debut EP from LIfe Form out of Portland, OR, great noize punk with vicious vocals, hyper fuzzed guitar & bouncy bass. After a very well received demo tape, this EP is fucking great. Highly recommended!"
GASMASK TERROR "17101961" 7" (SPHC)
Gasmask Terror are a d-beat band that crafts their riffs and songs more finely than their distortion pedals. Over time, they've come to master the Totalitar/No Security-idea of playing d-beat. This record, along with the Black Sun/Fake Gold LP and Like Daggers EP before it, is proof enough of that. In a world of hyped "noise not music" sloganeering (of which I am proudly a part of), it's refreshing to hear a band that doesn't include any members of Totalitar tackle this style.
SUN CHILDREN SUN "S/T" 7" (SPHC)
Describing this record is tough. The obvious starting point is Vi-Vi Punx, but that's an awfully obscure reference. I normally sum it up as "the shit-fi remix of the last Paintbox album", but that doesn't quite do it justice. Perhaps you could say "Naked City lounging around at a beach, sipping iced tea and taking in a nice sunshiny day", but, I dunno, what does that even mean? Sun Children Sun on these recordings is a rudimentary, minimalist, and eclectic mix of fast hardcore, ska, reggae, and pop-punk. Genius in its uncompromising disregard for style, formula, or expectations, to create a totally wild and unique experience. Overflowing with positive attitude and charisma, shining brightly with fun-loving energy. An irresistible record. Cool and forward-thinking punk music like this always reminds me of all the reasons why I wanted to release records in the first place.
BILL BONDSMEN "PEASANT UNDER GLASS" 7" (BILL BONDSMEN)
"Those of you who have picked up the Bondsmen's past two singles are no doubt stoked to see another one. For those of you who aren't hip, let me inform you that Detroit's Bill Bondsmen have quietly been becoming one of the most exciting punk bands in the world, releasing these limited-run, self-released singles with sloppily-screened covers. The band have some older material that I didn't care for very much, but what they've put out on these self-released singles is absolute gold... genre-busting weirdo hardcore that sounds like Die Kreuzen and the Germs had writing, diseased baby who grew up to steal Greg Sage's chorus pedal. This new single is without a doubt the best of the bunch... seriously, these two songs are so ragingly weird, catchy and awesome... there are no words. GET THIS! PLEASURE LEFTISTS "S/T" 7" (KATORGA WORKS)
In a 2012 music universe over-saturated with post-punk zombies, Cleveland's Pleasure Leftists have forged a sound all their own. Their 2011 debut EP on Fan Death established the band as a contender in the world of gloomy thumping, but they are set apart by an aggressive rhythm section and haunting incantations that can only be characterized as an ecstatic celebration of the human voice. This 7" features two new songs that push the limits of a doomsday worldview's pop sensitivity. Ex-9 Shocks Terror
CAT PARTY "A THOUSAND SHADES OF GREY" 7" (RESSURECTION)
"A Thousand Shades Of Grey" was recorded in Santa Ana, California in the spring of 2012 by Noel Paris. This record has a more intense and spacier feel than previous Cat Party records. The title track is classic Cat Party post-punk while the B-side gets much darker than any of the bands previous recordings especially on the closing track titled "Loves Benign." Three songs on this 7", 500 pressed on random colored vinyl. The boys claim this may be the last one but we'll see if that becomes the case. All copies include digital download.
HONEY BADGERS "CRAB DUDES" 7" (RESSURECTION)
Ultra catchy surf influenced garage punk from Buena Park, California. Recorded Summer 2012 in Costa Mesa, California. Features members The Meka Leka Hi's & members of the now defunct Street Trash, The Shadowmen, & Cobwebs. This E.P. is self released by the band
PRIMITIVE HEARTS "HIGH AND TIGHT" 7" (RESSURECTION)

OUT COLD / BILL BONDSMEN - SPLIT 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
This 7″ sounds like it could have been recorded in some fucko’s basement in Maumee, Ohio in 1983. Out Cold treat us to three new tracks that have their patent, no holds barred 1981-style Massachusetts hardcore, tainted with the early sounds of the Mid West. If that isn’t a geographic train wreck why the hell are you still buying punk rock records in 2007? Bill Bondsmen compliment the driving sounds of Out Cold with two new tracks kicking their 1980′s retro hardcore sound. One of these is a ripping tribute to the pioneers of the Japanese HC scene. This wax is so tough it busted the metal stamper 800 copies into the pressing.
SICK/TIRED "KING OF DIRT" LP (COWABUNGA)
The LP finally sees the light of day. Still playing tight and well executed fast grindcore with 80's thrash, doom, death metal and punk elements interwoven into the mix. Yet with all the posi print they get despite being a hard working band they're still so underrated, maybe due to the fact they're hindered due to work not allowing em' to tour a whole lot. It'd be nice to see that change with the release of this LP, which is without a doubt the best release these guys have to date easily and to be so bold one of the best grind albums of 2013. This will also come with a bonus poster insert made by Kirk and Adam J, double sided and perfect quality. This also is the debut record of new vocalist Adam Jennings, whom you may know best from Winters In Osaka. Adam's brutal vocals devestate on this more lo fi but still shining recording and the fact that Robert quit the band which at the time was a downer, was almost a 'godsend' seeing they got Adam to replace him and not slow down a thing.
PUNCH IN THE FACE "LIVE ON RADIO K" LP (COUNTERFEIT GARBAGE)
This LP features a live radio set and the PITF demo on the flipside! "Punch in the Face was a Chicago super group of sorts that only recently broke up. They released a couple of 7inches, an LP, and various tracks on various compilations. Their sound falls somewhere between early Boston hardcore and Poison Idea. This radio session specifically falls in between their two early 7inches, S/T and Dumb Hardcore, and the LP, At War With Everybody. Therefore, you get a mix of the early faster songs, a couple of the compilation songs, and the slower, groovier LP songs. In fact, since this was three years before the LP, some of those tracks have different names. Neat! I really don't know what else to say about how pivotal this band was for me, in the respect of getting me into some of the more obscure older USHC bands, but that they are truly missed by the Chicago hardcore punk community." - landscapeofdust.blogspot.com
LEATHERFACE "MUSH" LP (FANCLUB)
Uhhh ... one of the greatest LPs ever made. Fanclub pressing rumored to have been commissioned by the band. Classic classic classic ... if you can't track down an original, this will hold you over. If you aren't familiar with LEATHERFACE, then this is the perfect starting point because it is, in fact, a perfect record.
MAJOR ACCIDENT "MASSACRED MELODIES" LP (RADIATION)
Started in late 1977 in Darlington, UK, after Con Larkin and his little brother Paul tried their hands at bass and singing respectively, legendary punkers Major Accident were initially influenced by the Pistols and the Clash. They toured the UK extensively before going to the studio, adding more originals to their set as time went on. However, a very sad fate befell their early studio activities: both their first recording session in 1980, which was supposed to be their debut single ("Terrorist Gang"/"War Boots") and the following one, which produced a completely mucked-up, unusable first edition of this LP, remained unreleased for years. It took until late 1982 for their first proper release to see the light of day: produced by Donkeys guitarist Neil Ferguson, their debut album "Massacred Melodies" finally came out on Step Forward, supported by a full UK tour with label-mates CHELSEA. The distinctive 'Clockwork Orange' image (they were the first punk band to adopt the look from Kubrick's famous movie, which was banned in the UK at the time and impossible-to-see anywhere) and their songwriting, by far more peculiar than the average UK82 punk band, allowed them to grow a sizeable following, and their classic sleeve artwork by Paul Dillon started appearing on the back of more than a few black leather jackets.
OLHO SECO "OLHO POR OLHO" LP (RADIATION)
The first and only full length LP by Sao Paulo punk legends Olho Seco, released in 1989 and never reissued since then. The fury of their early 80's singles has gone, leaving room for a more technical approach, somewhat akin to what Ratos De Porao were doing at the time. A nice little masterpiece in political punk, and one of Jello Biafra's personal faves!
ROUGH "INDELEBILE" LP (RADIATION)
Rough should be in Guinness for being on the first independent real punk record outta Italy. Torino early 80’s, four buddies shared their love for punk & oi! in Rough, a seminal band that lasted a very few years in two different waves & singers. This lp combines all their studio stuff and few rehearsal tx unreleased. If you need some heavy iron boots kicks in your mouth, this could be your chance.
BARE WIRES "IDLE DREAMS" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Front man Matthew Melton of Bare Wires seemed to care about two things; writing hook heavy garage songs and taking these songs on the road every chance he could get. Whether he was touring the U.S. with Thee Oh Sees, opening for Mark Sultan in Europe, or playing a house show somewhere inbetween, the band just never stopped. Yet, after spending the last three years being the uncontested kings of the road, Bare Wires are dead. The Oakland staple crumbled during SXSW this year. After failed performances one member ended up hospitalized and another MIA. Melton packed up the van and headed home, knowing that Bare Wires had run its course. From the ruins of this tour comes the last Bare Wires record. The album unintentionally takes us through the Bare Wires timeline. Melton’s influences unfold from his early worship of Stooges/Gories to the later imprints of Glam/Power Pop-heavy records recalling T-Rex and Gary Glitter. Although it may not have been evident while churning out these final bittersweet songs that this would be the end of Bare Wires. Melton certainly made it count. From the ashes of Bare Wires comes Melton’s final masterpiece, Idle Dreams. Includes digital download code.
HUSSY, THE "PAGAN HISS" LP (SOUTHPAW)
14 tracks of pungent and poignant psych-punk/trash-art that twists the limits of both punk and pop music. The Hussy’s third LP, and their first for Southpaw Records. The Hussy seamlessly crafts a smart and catchy record that’s full of dark depth. YOUNG GUV AND THE SCUZZ "A LOVE TOO STRONG" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Young Governor began as a solo outlet for Fucked Up guitarist Ben Cook. Since 2009 Cook has released 11 singles along with two EPs, (a prolific side project for a guy who is already in a full time band). While each release has varied in style and sound they all carried that same intensity and pop sensibility. On Young Guv’s new 12” on Oakland, CA label Southpaw, Cook enters a legit studio for the first time and brought with him some of the best musicians Toronto has to offer. Recorded and mixed by Steve Chahley, Canada's hidden gem engineer and mixer and "nicest man on planet earth" according to Cook. The intention was to make a high fidelity pop record with heavy influences from Guided By Voices, Tom Petty, and The Replacements. After one spin, no one could argue, Cook has unleashed his pop masterpiece onto the world.

TECHNICOLOR TEETH "TEENAGE PAGANS" LP (HOUSEPLANT)
"Members of Tenement & ex-Harlequin Kid making some noisy syrupy sounding shoegaze/psych inspired tunes here. These gents from Appleton, WI must be some busy folks as it seems I’m always seeing notifications on Facebook or whatever for shows of different bands that feature members of Tenement. The combination of styles on Teenage Pagans seems so obvious, but it’s a wonder why more bands don’t necessarily head in this direction. Instead of drifting into full blown MBV worship like most, the guys of Technicolor Teeth take the 90’s indie-rock and pop/punk elements of the other projects they’ve spent time in and work it into a wonderfully loud blend of noise and melody. It rides a fine line between the woozy and fuzz laden noise of the heyday of shoegaze and the sort of pop/punk song craft that makes a band like Tenement so enticing and well…fun. Occasionally the band will settle into a nice murky, and somewhat grungy, sludge like sound that certainly has traces of grime to it, but they seem to have their hands in many different areas. One main thing that I’ve come to really appreciate about Teenage Pagans is the way that the band shies away from sticking with or getting sucked into riding a particular riff for terribly long. One of the biggest downfalls I find with most shoegaze revivalist groups is that they are mostly a one trick pony and that ten songs of hearing the same damn thing over and over again is somehow interesting. Technicolor Teeth seem to be fully aware of these potential pitfalls and steer clear by doing incredibly well in mixing things up, managing to apply the sugary textures when necessary to keep a general style here, but willing to risk it by trying something a bit different from track to track. Most the tunes are short and sweet, but generally pack a number of surprises along the way. Absolutely amped to hear what these guys do in the future." - builtonaweakspot.com

This is probably the most heinous, fucked up, nonsensical racket of a record that I will release…until I drop the Ruidos Absurdos collection 7”. Only for the most true grind freaks and noise fiends. Sete Star Sept are the best Japanese grind band around, if not the best grind band in the entire world. This recording sees them applying their usual free-grindcore style through a lens of Seven Minutes of Nausea and 90's Spanish noisecore influences. Total shitnoise production that makes you wonder how/why/just what the fuck is going on anyway. If there was ever a band to challenge the grind supremacy of Sete Star Sept, it’d be Noise, the legendary hyper-political Brazilian grind unit, going over 20 years strong now. These recordings are exactly what you’ve come to know and love from this band: a non-stop barrage of raging grind blasts, a total noise assault to destroy the world capitalist system and give people headaches. LEBAKKO "POPKORNIKAUPPA" 12" (MUTANT)
"Debut 12" from this Finnish punk band. When I heard about this release from the label it was presented to me as "Suomi punk in between Lama and Ratsia" and it had a link to a BandCamp site. I listened to the song and my first thought was "that description doesn't make any sense, but this is awesome anyway." So what DOES this sound like? I'm really hard-pressed for any quick and easy band comparisons... the music is super complex, but very catchy and even melodic. I'd be willing to bet that Everything Falls Apart-era Husker Du is an influence, but by no means the only one. Honestly, I can see this band as working in a similar vein to fellow contemporary Finns like Kykloppien Sukupputto or Sokea Piste, but whereas those bands play gnarly hardcore, Lebakko is playing catchier punk, but with the same density of sound and a similar spirit of weirdness and originality. At the end of the day, though, this is a fantastic punk LP that really sounds like NOTHING else. Really fantastic." - sorrystaterecords.com

FULL SUN - HIGH CEILING / BARE FLOOR TAPE
This tape conveniently contains BOTH of the FULL SUN tapes! "Jeff Grant, formerly of PINK RAZORS and currently drumming in FAT SHADOW, has an ear for a catchy pop hook. He recorded all the instruments for this tape by himself in his basement in Indiana. I blasted it out of my boombox while sitting on Bernal Hill overlooking the city of San Francisco and fell in love with every song on here. The first comparison that came to my mind was the POTENTIAL JOHNS because of his clever use of the understated minor chord that really brings you in to the melancholy feeling of a great poppy song (my good friend Barker would refer to this as "the cinematic feel"). Looking past that comparison, there is also traces of PINK RAZORS, a little 60's garage rock and even a hint of the BEACH BOYS. When I first put this tape on I realized that it was great, but letting it sink in over time has helped me to realize that it is fucking amazing. My jam on here is "Spent All We Had" which is tastefully reverb-soaked and flawless. The dub song right after it provides a laid back reprieve before slamming into more masterful pop hooks with "Better." -MAXIMUM ROCK N' ROLL

It's been a little while since my last webstore update, so there is a ton of incredible new stuff here and I'll get to that shortly. First off, I've got a (semi) new release now available, a US pressing of the KREMLIN "Will You Feed Me?" 7"! This Toronto band's debut EP, which came out last year on Germany's Hardware Records, is a total ripper and one that everyone should check out ... and with international shipping rates constantly on the rise, it seems harder and harder to keep "imports" in stock these days (and at an affordable price). With that, and the release of the band's "Drunk in the Gulag" LP which came out on Beach Impediment / Bad Vibrations Records a few months back, we felt that it was good idea to do a North American pressing of the 7" to get it onto as many turntables as possible over here in the US and Canada.

I'll be quick with my other label news, expect a full update next week though! First off, COKE BUST is currently one week into a two month tour that will take them all across the US and then to EUROPE, and you can check out all of those dates at cokebust.com ... We managed to get the band a few tour copies of their brand new "Confined" 12", so pick it up if you see them! That record will hopefully be officially out in early August (and possibly much sooner in Europe on Refuse Records).
In more recent news, we've got the NIGHT BIRDS "Born to Die in Suburbia" LP right around the corner! Release date is July 9th, and so far we are on schedule to have the record out around that time. A lot of people have been asking when this record will go up for order/preorder ... at the moment I really can't say but I'm shooting to make it available for mailorder the first week of July (fingers crossed)! Finally ... my apologies to the wonderful BRAIN F≠ for completely forgetting to mention their upcoming "EMPTY SET" LP in last month's update (you know, the one where I told you about all of my upcoming releases EXCEPT for this one) ... whoops. But yes, the band's second LP is currently being mastered and will once again be a co-release with Sorry State Records. Bradock PA's premier Straight Edge band return for 2013 with their debut lp, expanding the scope of their previous 7", and continuing their dignified retrofit of darker late 80's NYHC for the darker still 20-teens. Recorded by the band in their own rehearsal compound, these songs weave through the crooked landscape of modern day anomie, dehumanization, and personal betrayal the way In-Effect era Killing Time and Sick Of It All did before them.
VIOLENT REACTION "CITY STREETS" LP (PAINKILLER)
One-man army Tom Pimlott arrives direct from Liverpool, England with an lp that splits the difference between early 80's US and UK hardcore with the kind of seamlessness and taste that escapes most bands. Whereas the original X-Claim crew took the British Hardcore of the day and twisted it to fit their post Minor Threat, townie world view, Violent Reaction takes the X-Claim sound and injects a tasteful dash of '82 style British Hardcore. This might be the best record of this style to come from the UK since the first Voorhees lp.
KROMOSOM "NUCLEAR REICH" LP (DISTORT REALITY)
Newest LP from Melbourne, Australia Raw-punk/D-beat Punx! Latest installment of noise drenched hardcore power from these Australian Ragers, one of the best live hardcore bands anywhere, catch them if you can.
CREEM "DISCOGRAPHY" LP (STATIC SHOCK)
Released to co-incide with Creem's Summer 2013 European tour. This lp compiles their S/T 12" ep , the 'Good Riddance / I Hate You' 7" and the demo tape (all of Creem's released material up to the brand new 'Curator' ep.) Infusing their beloved American hardcore with a smattering of punk virility from over the years, Creem is hard punk for hard punk fans. HOAX "COLLECTED" LP (ADAGIO 830)
Buzz-saw guitars, bludgeoning drums, and breakdowns that scream "kiss me on my bloody head." They are the defenders of true hardcore spite and genuine danger. Mosh-heavy songs of empowerment and anger are forged using a degraded distillation of vintage Alan Blake-style riffing backed with driving, militaristic drums, and the feral anomie typically reserved for a vocalist like Mike IX Williams. BAD NOIDS "EVERYTHING FROM SOUP TO DESSERT" LP (KATORGA WORKS)
Clearly an unsavory product of the dilapidated industrial wasteland of Cleveland, Bad Noids make their official vinyl debut after a difficult-to-acquire bootleg 7". This record is a collection of older and newer songs, all rerecorded/recorded to caveman perfection in what is the defining document of Bad Noids, thus far. This is the new school of Clevocore. Comes with a 11"x14" full color poster courtesy of White Tony.
GAS RAG "HUMAN RIGHTS" 7" (BEACH IMPEDIMENT)
Chicago sex punks GAS RAG are back with six tracks of hardcore punk for the masses. Recorded during the same session that yielded the critically acclaimed 2013 demo, the “HUMAN RIGHTS” EP is sure to tickle the collective fancy of those who were stimulated by the aforementioned demo tape. Blending elements of D-Beat rock based music and a bit of their own Midwestern flavor, GAS RAG gives Earth's freaks the perfect summer soundtrack to go along nicely with their inhalants and/or any other substances that one would deem fit.

New York's Creem return in 2013 with a brand new 4 track ep. Keeping with their now trademark sound of Boston influenced hardcore punk with touches of UK82, there are now additional touches of Kings Of Punk-era Poison Idea in the mix, especially on the title track. Here's the 3rd volume of the Sick Nick Club series which is by none other then the 3 wonder boys of Wisconsin, TENEMENT. 2 brand new tracks exclusive to this 7'' single- A side written by Jesse and the B side written by Amos. A side is a more traditional 1-2 foot tapping, catchy as hell Tenement standard where the B side is a very off kilter, poppy alt rock sort of track. Its totally a Tenement song, but its also a 1st for them in this style too. 1 time press of 500, housed in a hand assembled, full color glue pocket cover to boot!
REPOS, THE "SICK CLUB VOL. 4" 7" (COWABUNGA)
The 4th volume of the Sick Club series is filled by Chicago's own local legends THE REPOS. I feel by now I don't need to explain who this band is and what they sound like so know I am not going to. If you know and follow even just decent HC at all in the last so many years, you'd at least just know who this band is. After breaking up in 2008, but re-emerging in late 2010 as a new band called THE ROPES, the band quietly released some demos and a 7'' upon the world. Come sometime in later 2012, the band name 'THE ROPES' was already taken by some crap band from Rhode Island who of course threatened legal action since they couldn't cut it themselves and were too ego struck to let it be taken, so the guys went back to using the old REPOS moniker once more. These are 2, brand new EXCLUSIVE tracks on this Sick Nick Club 7'' aka 'Armed and Using' and 'Hole In the Hill', and like the others in the series a 1 time press of 500 copies with no repress, records are nestled in a hand assembled glue pocket cover too designed by Chicago art stalwart Ryan Lowry.
DEATH AFTER DECAY "SYSTEM FUCKING BASTARDS" 7" (COWABUNGA)
The newest output from this Hammond,Indiana anarchist HC punk band. Musically, this record is more PUNK and a little less rockin' then the 1st one but still what I call a 'traditional DxAxDx record'. If I had to make comparisons, I'd say this one where a generic description is still apt- Varukers and Discharge crossed w early Inepsy, GBH, Guns N Roses, Burning Spirits style Japanese HC and Violent Society with slight midwestern flair.
TECHNICOLOR TEETH "SAGE" 7" (COWABUNGA)
I knew my boy Amos had drummed in bands such as Paul Collins Beat and Chinese Telephones to name but a few. Then apart from his freakishly godlike guitar skills he showcases in his certain 3 piece band by the name of Tenement, that he remains more of a drummer. TT released a tape only album 'Teenage Pagans' in 2012 (may or may not see its vinyl treatment via Houseplant in 2013?) on Lets Pretend based out of Bloomington, Indiana (and home to Paul Mahern!). I had seen the band in 2011 at a Bored Straight/Leather show and fell in love there, but it wasn't until I obtained the cassette album that I had asked to do a record then knowing these guys had done something of a release. These 3 Wisconsin lads play a great shoegaze/DIY indie rock hybrid but its also very catchy, not just mired in 'dreamy' territory like most bands of the genre and thankfully done very PUNK. I mean, you can probably gather something what they sound like just from those explanatory words I imagine so I'll leave that there. Each 1 of the 3 members wrote a song here on this 3 song EP too, where each has a different feel to it which makes it so much better.
VIOLENT REACTION "S/T" 7" (MINDROT)
US Pressing!! Following a promising demo last year, Liverpool's Violent Reaction finally release their debut 7" ep. Six tracks of undiluted hardcore punk that are more influenced by Discharge, Poison Idea, Out Cold and Blitz than the likes of Youth Of Today, VR is for those who like their straight edge hardcore a little more antisocial.Originally started as a one man project by Tom Pimlott (Sectarian Violence, Nowhere Fast), VR is now playing live with members of Stab and Abolition backing him up.
WARXGAMES "9 TRAX/NO NIGHTMARE" 7" (REACT)
The darker, dirtier, weirder older brother of the Baltimore Straight Edge makes its debut on REACT! with 9 raw and raging blasts of hardcore psychosis slammed wall to wall into a 7"EP. Featuring members of MINDSET, DEEP SLEEP,OAK and THE PIST (among others), WARXGAMES pulls from all corners of the hardcorepunkmetal universe and meets not necessarily in the middle, but somewhere else entirely Straight Edge. For fans of Infest, The Abused, Brotherhood and MDHC Legends VOID.
BORN WRONG "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
BORN WRONG turns out four new tracks reminiscent of early DC hardcore with a modern punch. They hail from Hamilton, Canada (not Toronto). Aggressive vocals, gritty tone, caveman drumming. Hating cops and spitting in your face. Watch out for these guys touring the East Coast U.S. in May.
TV FREAKS "S/T" 7" (SCHIZOPHRENIC)
The TV FREAKS listen to a lot of Australian punk, and that ranges from new upstarts – EDDY CURRENT SUPRESSION RING to the classic, killed by death, bank account drainer they take their namesake from. And just like Victims, Hamilton’s TV FREAKS are busting at the seams with energy and spit. TV FREAKS do a great job of taking some classic and modern influences to come up with their own unique and fresh sound. This is pure punk rock that looks better in blood on a guitar than spray painted on a leather jacket and I’m sure if the gods of good taste get off their asses you’ll see both.

FRIENDS OF CESAR ROMERO "RED HEADED STRANGER" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
With the shake of a tambourine and a quake of the pelvis, the pop-art garage-punks known as the Friends Of Cesar Romero have crash-landed. Featuring members of such hook-infused outfits as The Reddmen, Mandingo, and Stereotyperider, FOCR have devolved the electric-guitar beat-combo into a thing of pants-shitting Neanderthal beauty. Pounding, menacing, snarling, and unaccustomed to our flowery futuristic bullshit, the gang’s anthemic, King Kahn-esque, Saturday-morning-cartoonish onslaught is ready to biff-bang-pow its way into your heart. And/or crotch.
EMPTY PALACE "S/T" 7" (SNAPPY LITTLE NUMBERS)
Some say Judas Priest lost their metal-lovin’ minds when they decided to let synthesizers seep into their sound circa 1985’s Turbo. Empty Palace could not care less. The Los Angeles outfit takes classic metal songcraft, NWOBHM bombast, and the chiseled precision of Reagan (Thatcher?) Era stadium rock—then they ram it down your unsuspecting throat. But frontman Patrick Houston and drummer Jason Walker (formerly of Denver legends Brainhammer and Angels Never Answer, among sundry other acts of sonic tomfoolery) don’t stop there. Lo and behold, the group’s debut EP blends the mythopoeic majesty of ’80s Blue Öyster Cult—yeah, the new-wave sounding stuff that’s way, way better than you remember—with melody, dynamism, and even hints of balladry. Like the iron fist of an android knight, it pummels with the single-minded purity of deathless life. Call it turbo-injected, if you wish.

ESTROGEN HIGHS "FOR ALL I KNOW" 7" (SOUTHPAW)
Estrogen Highs peaked a lot of interest recently with their sophmore LP "Friends and Relatives" and this four song EP quickly follows that up. This release much like their recent LP brings to mind a wide variety of influnces including The Wipers, Guided By Voices, and Kiwi-style pop. A new LP coming on Chicago's Trouble In Mind later this year. Limited to 300 copies!
HACKMORE BRICK "OH! THOSE SWEET BANANAS" 7" (UGLY POP)
Hackamore Brick's sole 1970 LP on Kama Sutra remains a much-desired artifact of its era, a primordial expression of seminal proto-punk and early Velvets worship. While there are several great tracks on the LP, it's long been my opinion that Oh! Those Sweet Bananas was criminally over-looked and should really have been a 45 from the start. One of the great lost songs of the period, it's a quick, catchy and instantly addictive burst of NYC garage punk pop at the dawn of the '70s. The flip is a beautiful and memorable slow-burner, and a different take to that on the LP. A slight change of pace for Ugly Pop, but a long-time favourite that anyone with good taste will appreciate. New picture sleeve, one-time-only pressing of 500 copies.
NO MISTAKE "CONNECT THE DOTS" 7" (REFUSE)
Once upon a time hardcore had no metal influence. It was as poppy as homicide. Great dinosaurs roamed the earth with names like SSD, YDI, Jerry's Kids, Negative Approach, and so on. You could honestly feel the bands were actually straining themselves terribly if the song made it to TWO WHOLE MINUTES?!?!?!?! This sounds EXACTLY like that. You aren’t going to make guitar poses, fall in love, dance in a quirky cute manner. Yer gonna SLAM and yer gonna dig it. Good production, straight ahead attack hard core, just like your mamma used to cook up. Featuring members of GO! NYHC, In Disgust and Permanent Ruin.
FULL SUN "STAY AWAKE" 7" (LET'S PRETEND)

GASMASK TERROR "17101961" 7" (SPHC)
Gasmask Terror are a d-beat band that crafts their riffs and songs more finely than their distortion pedals. Over time, they've come to master the Totalitar/No Security-idea of playing d-beat. This record, along with the Black Sun/Fake Gold LP and Like Daggers EP before it, is proof enough of that. In a world of hyped "noise not music" sloganeering (of which I am proudly a part of), it's refreshing to hear a band that doesn't include any members of Totalitar tackle this style.
SUN CHILDREN SUN "S/T" 7" (SPHC)
Describing this record is tough. The obvious starting point is Vi-Vi Punx, but that's an awfully obscure reference. I normally sum it up as "the shit-fi remix of the last Paintbox album", but that doesn't quite do it justice. Perhaps you could say "Naked City lounging around at a beach, sipping iced tea and taking in a nice sunshiny day", but, I dunno, what does that even mean? Sun Children Sun on these recordings is a rudimentary, minimalist, and eclectic mix of fast hardcore, ska, reggae, and pop-punk. Genius in its uncompromising disregard for style, formula, or expectations, to create a totally wild and unique experience. Overflowing with positive attitude and charisma, shining brightly with fun-loving energy. An irresistible record. Cool and forward-thinking punk music like this always reminds me of all the reasons why I wanted to release records in the first place.
BILL BONDSMEN "PEASANT UNDER GLASS" 7" (BILL BONDSMEN)
"Those of you who have picked up the Bondsmen's past two singles are no doubt stoked to see another one. For those of you who aren't hip, let me inform you that Detroit's Bill Bondsmen have quietly been becoming one of the most exciting punk bands in the world, releasing these limited-run, self-released singles with sloppily-screened covers. SICK/TIRED "KING OF DIRT" LP (COWABUNGA)
The LP finally sees the light of day. Still playing tight and well executed fast grindcore with 80's thrash, doom, death metal and punk elements interwoven into the mix. Yet with all the posi print they get despite being a hard working band they're still so underrated, maybe due to the fact they're hindered due to work not allowing em' to tour a whole lot. It'd be nice to see that change with the release of this LP, which is without a doubt the best release these guys have to date easily and to be so bold one of the best grind albums of 2013. This will also come with a bonus poster insert made by Kirk and Adam J, double sided and perfect quality. This also is the debut record of new vocalist Adam Jennings, whom you may know best from Winters In Osaka. Adam's brutal vocals devestate on this more lo fi but still shining recording and the fact that Robert quit the band which at the time was a downer, was almost a 'godsend' seeing they got Adam to replace him and not slow down a thing.

This LP features a live radio set and the PITF demo on the flipside! "Punch in the Face was a Chicago super group of sorts that only recently broke up. They released a couple of 7inches, an LP, and various tracks on various compilations. Their sound falls somewhere between early Boston hardcore and Poison Idea. This radio session specifically falls in between their two early 7inches, S/T and Dumb Hardcore, and the LP, At War With Everybody. Therefore, you get a mix of the early faster songs, a couple of the compilation songs, and the slower, groovier LP songs. In fact, since this was three years before the LP, some of those tracks have different names. Neat! MAJOR ACCIDENT "MASSACRED MELODIES" LP (RADIATION)
Started in late 1977 in Darlington, UK, after Con Larkin and his little brother Paul tried their hands at bass and singing respectively, legendary punkers Major Accident were initially influenced by the Pistols and the Clash. They toured the UK extensively before going to the studio, adding more originals to their set as time went on. However, a very sad fate befell their early studio activities: both their first recording session in 1980, which was supposed to be their debut single ("Terrorist Gang"/"War Boots") and the following one, which produced a completely mucked-up, unusable first edition of this LP, remained unreleased for years. It took until late 1982 for their first proper release to see the light of day: produced by Donkeys guitarist Neil Ferguson, their debut album "Massacred Melodies" finally came out on Step Forward, supported by a full UK tour with label-mates CHELSEA. The distinctive 'Clockwork Orange' image (they were the first punk band to adopt the look from Kubrick's famous movie, which was banned in the UK at the time and impossible-to-see anywhere) and their songwriting, by far more peculiar than the average UK82 punk band, allowed them to grow a sizeable following, and their classic sleeve artwork by Paul Dillon started appearing on the back of more than a few black leather jackets.
OLHO SECO "OLHO POR OLHO" LP (RADIATION)
The first and only full length LP by Sao Paulo punk legends Olho Seco, released in 1989 and never reissued since then. The fury of their early 80's singles has gone, leaving room for a more technical approach, somewhat akin to what Ratos De Porao were doing at the time. A nice little masterpiece in political punk, and one of Jello Biafra's personal faves!

BARE WIRES "IDLE DREAMS" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Front man Matthew Melton of Bare Wires seemed to care about two things; writing hook heavy garage songs and taking these songs on the road every chance he could get. Whether he was touring the U.S. with Thee Oh Sees, opening for Mark Sultan in Europe, or playing a house show somewhere inbetween, the band just never stopped. Yet, after spending the last three years being the uncontested kings of the road, Bare Wires are dead. The Oakland staple crumbled during SXSW this year. After failed performances one member ended up hospitalized and another MIA. Melton packed up the van and headed home, knowing that Bare Wires had run its course. From the ruins of this tour comes the last Bare Wires record. The album unintentionally takes us through the Bare Wires timeline. Melton’s influences unfold from his early worship of Stooges/Gories to the later imprints of Glam/Power Pop-heavy records recalling T-Rex and Gary Glitter. Although it may not have been evident while churning out these final bittersweet songs that this would be the end of Bare Wires. Melton certainly made it count. HUSSY, THE "PAGAN HISS" LP (SOUTHPAW)

YOUNG GUV AND THE SCUZZ "A LOVE TOO STRONG" LP (SOUTHPAW)
Young Governor began as a solo outlet for Fucked Up guitarist Ben Cook. Since 2009 Cook has released 11 singles along with two EPs, (a prolific side project for a guy who is already in a full time band). While each release has varied in style and sound they all carried that same intensity and pop sensibility. On Young Guv’s new 12” on Oakland, CA label Southpaw, Cook enters a legit studio for the first time and brought with him some of the best musicians Toronto has to offer. Recorded and mixed by Steve Chahley, Canada's hidden gem engineer and mixer and "nicest man on planet earth" according to Cook. The intention was to make a high fidelity pop record with heavy influences from Guided By Voices, Tom Petty, and The Replacements. After one spin, no one could argue, Cook has unleashed his pop masterpiece onto the world.

"Members of Tenement & ex-Harlequin Kid making some noisy syrupy sounding shoegaze/psych inspired tunes here. These gents from Appleton, WI must be some busy folks as it seems I’m always seeing notifications on Facebook or whatever for shows of different bands that feature members of Tenement. The combination of styles on Teenage Pagans seems so obvious, but it’s a wonder why more bands don’t necessarily head in this direction. Instead of drifting into full blown MBV worship like most, the guys of Technicolor Teeth take the 90’s indie-rock and pop/punk elements of the other projects they’ve spent time in and work it into a wonderfully loud blend of noise and melody. It rides a fine line between the woozy and fuzz laden noise of the heyday of shoegaze and the sort of pop/punk song craft that makes a band like Tenement so enticing and well…fun. Occasionally the band will settle into a nice murky, and somewhat grungy, sludge like sound that certainly has traces of grime to it, but they seem to have their hands in many different areas. One main thing that I’ve come to really appreciate about Teenage Pagans is the way that the band shies away from sticking with or getting sucked into riding a particular riff for terribly long. One of the biggest downfalls I find with most shoegaze revivalist groups is that they are mostly a one trick pony and that ten songs of hearing the same damn thing over and over again is somehow interesting. Technicolor Teeth seem to be fully aware of these potential pitfalls and steer clear by doing incredibly well in mixing things up, managing to apply the sugary textures when necessary to keep a general style here, but willing to risk it by trying something a bit different from track to track. Most the tunes are short and sweet, but generally pack a number of surprises along the way. Absolutely amped to hear what these guys do in the future." - builtonaweakspot.com

Sete Star Sept are the best Japanese grind band around, if not the best grind band in the entire world. This recording sees them applying their usual free-grindcore style through a lens of Seven Minutes of Nausea and 90's Spanish noisecore influences. Total shitnoise production that makes you wonder how/why/just what the fuck is going on anyway. If there was ever a band to challenge the grind supremacy of Sete Star Sept, it’d be Noise, the legendary hyper-political Brazilian grind unit, going over 20 years strong now. LEBAKKO "POPKORNIKAUPPA" 12" (MUTANT)
"Debut 12" from this Finnish punk band. When I heard about this release from the label it was presented to me as "Suomi punk in between Lama and Ratsia" and it had a link to a BandCamp site. I listened to the song and my first thought was "that description doesn't make any sense, but this is awesome anyway." So what DOES this sound like? I'm really hard-pressed for any quick and easy band comparisons... the music is super complex, but very catchy and even melodic. I'd be willing to bet that Everything Falls Apart-era Husker Du is an influence, but by no means the only one. Honestly, I can see this band as working in a similar vein to fellow contemporary Finns like Kykloppien Sukupputto or Sokea Piste, but whereas those bands play gnarly hardcore, Lebakko is playing catchier punk, but with the same density of sound and a similar spirit of weirdness and originality. FULL SUN - HIGH CEILING / BARE FLOOR TAPE
This tape conveniently contains BOTH of the FULL SUN tapes! "Jeff Grant, formerly of PINK RAZORS and currently drumming in FAT SHADOW, has an ear for a catchy pop hook. He recorded all the instruments for this tape by himself in his basement in Indiana. I blasted it out of my boombox while sitting on Bernal Hill overlooking the city of San Francisco and fell in love with every song on here. The first comparison that came to my mind was the POTENTIAL JOHNS because of his clever use of the understated minor chord that really brings you in to the melancholy feeling of a great poppy song (my good friend Barker would refer to this as "the cinematic feel"). Looking past that comparison, there is also traces of PINK RAZORS, a little 60's garage rock and even a hint of the BEACH BOYS. When I first put this tape on I realized that it was great, but letting it sink in over time has helped me to realize that it is fucking amazing. My jam on here is "Spent All We Had" which is tastefully reverb-soaked and flawless. The dub song right after it provides a laid back reprieve before slamming into more masterful pop hooks with "Better." -MAXIMUM ROCK N' ROLL
