yeah but some helmets look less nerdy than other ones.
went for another ride today in this amazing weather. my seat has been killing my ass though. luckily a friend of mine won an extra seat in the WESA alley cat in raleigh so she is giving me the seat for free. im pumped about it

if your seat hurts adjust the height and angle before you buy another one (though you got one for free, so fuck it). I've ridden awful saddles that were horrible and uncomfortable, and a great saddle at the wrong height is a thousand times worse. If it hurts when you're going over bumps/you feel bruised it's probably too high, or angled wrong. if it hurts more like it's rubbing, or chaffing it means the seat sucks.

ive been having issues with my seat bruising me only on certain rides. When i'm mostly going up hill i'm fine, but when I'm staying on pretty level ground and just casually riding along, the next day its impossible to ride.
Know of any good websites where I can find a better way to judge how high my seat should be or what angle would be best?

if you already hurt, then it's going to be hard to figure out exactly what will work, but I think that the seat exactly level, or a little upward is what I've always liked. the height should be pretty close to legs fully extended when you're sitting on your seat, and your at the bottom of the pedal stroke (12:00, and 6:00)

i mean i just end up sore for like a day. it gets less and less extreme each time i ride, but my seat rules so i know its not the seat. its also very manageable, i was just hoping that the angle had some kind of sweet spot for bike riders with three testicles.

put the new seat on there and its 10x more comfortable. it also is slightly shorter, so i sit lower on the bike and now im not going to worry about trying to move that damn seatpost. what sucks is that i put the new seat on, then biked around my neighborhood to look at the tornado damage...less than ten minutes after i put the new saddle on i turned a corner going too fast to stop and didnt see a downed tree. i had a minor wipeout and kind of hit against the side railing on the greenway and now the new seat already has a rip in it.
also i think my rear derailleur may be broken. its definitely bent. i rode around for awhile after it happened and i can ride fine, but shifting was kind of weird. hopefully its not a serious problem...i dont want to spend a ton of money to fix it

After spending a whole month waiting for all my parts to come in I finally got to ride my bike today. The weather ruled and I have to say I really like an aluminum frame. I do want to get some new tires though. Does anyone have anything to refer me too. I know about Gatorskins but I was wondering if there were any other options like that.

I just bought some new tires but haven't picked them up yet, I'll tell you how they compare to gatorskins. but I will say, I've had the same gatorskins on my bike for 3 years without going through them. I finally have a hole in one, so I'm replacing it, but 3 years and thousands of miles is pretty good

Apparently they are supposed to self repair themselves if they ever get punctured. Pretty cool.

I've been riding on my bike pretty steady for 6 months and still havent had a flat yet. i'm stoked on it the first time it happens because my bike is so light i can carry it one handed. its almost easier to carry than it is to ride.

i get flats and throw spokes all the time. i've tried lots of different kinds of tubes and I haven't found a brand that really stands out to me yet

tubes or tires? I've tried tons of tubes and never really thought anything was that different, but tires make a world of difference.

Anyone know a good bike shop in Charlotte? My lady's bike needs some new wheels and I'm looking for some new bars and straps for my pedals. We're picking up our bikes from storage soon from our move and I'm ready to ride!
I found this company on Amazon, called Origin-8, that sells stuff at a pretty good price...just curious if anyone has heard of it and what they think of their product.
Thanks in advance!

go to bike gallery in charlotte (near park road shopping center/rusans), or espada (noda). espada doesn't have very much in stock, but he can get cool stuff and is a really really good mechanic. bike gallery is super old and awesome.

I have a few origin 8 stuff. It's pretty nice. Just average I would say since it's so cheap. I have a BB, Bars and pedals so there's not really a huge difference in those things.

Right on guys, thanks for the info. I've heard pretty rad things about Bike Gallery. I'll have to go check it out when I get my bike up here and figure out exactly what I need.

I've tried tons of tubes and never really thought anything was that different, but tires make a world of difference. both. i ride fixed and that makes my rides a bit more rough on the bike, especially when riding the poorly maintained roads around here. any recs for a tough 700 tire?

yo I've been riding no brake for five years, I know all about shit getting fucked up. I still say gatorskins, but I'm trying new tires at the end of this week. I use to go through a ton of tires, but have managed to ride this set of gatorskins into the ground over two years

blew out all tubes on both my bikes yesterday.
from riding?
no, from hauling them inside the car and leaving them in the super hot.
tubes burst right at the damn valves from the heat.
i need a goddamn bike rack or something inventive to use on the roof rack of my car. although it did give me a chance to switch to slimelights. the idea seems pretty good, but until i get a rack i'll definitely be dropping my tire pressure a bit on hot days for transporting inside the car.

true, but everyone has those ones that fit over a trunk of a sedan or coupe. or at least thats all i've been able to find on craigslist. i have a wagon, so i've got a roof rack already, i just know theres gotta be some some kind of simple attachment i can hook to the roof rack to hold my bike.
also, i was talking to my brother about my new slimelight tubes and he told me i was an idiot and that i should switch to those shitty foam airless tubes. i tried to explain to him how they held no advantage at all seeing as how good tires are wayyyyyyy more expensive than good tubes and i'd rather deal with a flat than have to buy new tires every couple months. he still thinks i'm an idiot, maybe i am, but seriously, who came up with this foam airless tube bullshit?
