my current route that i'm planning is 7 miles to work, then a different route which is closer to 10 miles around the other side of town to end up back home. if i can accomplish that without much trouble, then i'll feel pretty damn proud of myself.
also, been thinking about making payments on a 2011 Kona. those things are huge but still light enough to hold over my head with one hand. close to a grand to get one, but its not like i'm gonna be driving a car anytime soon haha.

the bike shop where i got my haro just became a kona dealer too, he has one in there i think its the mahuna. i cant tell from the pics online but the one i saw was definitely a 29er with a box shaped frame. very manly looking. he's asking a grand for it which makes me think its something different. i dont really ride trails so i'd probably convert it into a hybrid like my haro. why would i want two hybrids? fuck if i know, but i want a kona so bad now. buying NICE bikes is really like spoiling a child... fucking ruined forever.
but if i decide not to drop so much cash i'll be going with another haro, adult bmx with disc brakes for like 300 bucks

so I'm riding something other than gatorskins for the first time in 5 years. I also figured out I did something like 10,000 miles on my last tire, so yeah.

I mean, I had a summer where I did a bunch of centuries, along with a double century.
realistically, it's probably closer to 6000, but with all the random long rides, who knows.

Clt to Wilmington again soon. Whos down? i'm hoping this is real. it would be like hiking the appalachian trail, you plot out a course and you figure up how far you go each day, stop and camp or lodging when needed, eat when needed, and be drunk as fuck the whole time. we have to do this. its FLAT the whole way there and back. total easy street.

June 13th - 17th
I've decided to lead a bicycle journey [or just go by myself if no one cares to follow] to the coast and back.
I'm gonna figure out the route and schedule over the next week.
Starting point TBA but probably somewhere between statesville or charlotte.

this whole round trip can be achieved by riding 6 hours a day at the normal rate of speed in which i commute to work.

This is totally feasible. I did it in two days averaging 17mph. stopping in lumberton to sleep.. I did that ride 48/17 fixed/brakeless- kind of impractical but very doable.. I got rid of my track bike and now I would ride my Bianchi Axis 1x9- way more suitable for traveling. Levi- NOT FLAT at all the whole way. The piedmont area headed towards the coast is brutally hilly. The same crew that i did the fixed ride to wilmington with just did a Clt-Savannah ride in two days averaging 18mph- they were riding lightly loaded cross/road bikes and said the first hilly day was greuling and second day was cake. The key to pulling of distance rides is riding with good riders and working as a team- Ie. small dudes with climbing power to the front for hills make a draft for the heavier dudes in the back> Heavier dudes with strength to the front on flats...ect. The coolest thing about riding a freewheel bike is getting tucked into the pack and just being able to basically coast because of the draft. This makes miles disappear so quick.. Lets do this. Until then- who is interested in doing charlotte ->crowders mtn with me in the next few weeks? We would average about 18mph and do it sometime post morning rush hour.

So far in my research I've decided that a weedwacker motor is the best for me, since I have wimpy ears. The problem that I have is whether to use a spindle that hits the wheel and spins it or do some sort of multi chainring set-up (the only problem with that is the complexity. But you can go way faster if you set it up that way, so I guess it's an even trade.)
As for using a scooter motor, I bet you'd go 20000000x faster!!!

the weedwacker motor would work great if you had a two chain system like on some tall bikes. or just one really big gear spinning a really small gear attached to the wheel.
dude just thinking about this gives me a stiffy
