Agreed, but even attendance at shows lately has been rather terrible. I am wondering where all these people ventured off to.

I guess that makes me one of the newjacks still.... I do remember going to LGT BIZ shows where there were actually over 100 people. Those were the glory days.

im sorry but the glory days were long before lgt biz was a venue. local shows 100 people was a low turnout at one point.

It will rise again when Newt Gingrich is president and kids turn to punk rock once more.

I've always felt like scenes have their highs and lows. It certainly seems like it's kinda in a low at the moment

Pretty much, except your typical 1-2 1-2 ra ra ra Minor Threat Poison Idea kind of punk shows...somehow those kids are still as into it as ever. Otherwise, yeah shit has been weeeak. I'm especially referring to Greensboro as well.

Book shows. Start a band. Start a zine. Involve like-minded people. Go to shows. Support bands. Read zines.
Go to Breast Fest. Go to Breast Fest. Go to fucking Breast Fest.
Rep the NCHC.

I don't think we've passed our glory days, even though I'm a lot younger than everyone else, I just think no one will give anyone a chance to impress them anymore.

i mean its all easily explained. when music became readily available online people stopped going to check out bands. this is one reason i think if you record before you play a show you already fuck yourself.

I'm especially referring to Greensboro as well. if you think things are dead in Raleigh, you're not going to the same shows i am. but i guess that's kind of obvious with what you're referring to as 'ra ra' punk shows. there are a lot of great fucking bands in this city, tons of active people that have been around for a while, and even more younger folks that are stoked as shit AND actually doing things. but most people on here don't give a shit about it. not everyone's bag, i guess. and i can pretty much say the same for Charlotte. it's just not always HARDCORE

Bobbo makes a good point. Also, if you guys are getting bored that means its time to start a new band.

I didn't start this thread to talk shit on the current state of things, I just was curious where all those people that used to pack out venues went...Hiding on a computer? If so i'd atleast hope they would have found this site by now. ps- I would love to start a new band in the Raleigh area. Any like minded individuals, hit me up.

Charlotte has an awesome scene right now. It is great in a way that there are a lot of different bands that don't fit nicely into any category. There really aren't any straight up hardcore bands right now and it may or may not be a good thing right now in the city. Here is my list of bands you should know about in Charlotte (some self serving).
Young and In the Way No Power Calormen Late Bloomer Oddczar Pullman Strike Pain & Panic One Another Hungry Girl Meat Group Joint Damage Andy the DoorBum Blossoms
...there are probably a lot more but I definitely can't complain right now living in the queen citaaayyy.

Charlottes "hardcore scene" is a popularity contest.

Charlottes "hardcore scene" is a popularity contest. Every scene is a popularity contest. People want something different, but turn the noses up at most that's not the same as everything else. 5 yrs ago, everyone either wanted to sound like Deathblow, a BTBAM starter band, or Youth Crew, now it's either grind or PV. People can't seem to take two seconds to check locals out that isn't the same as everything else (IMO). I'm sure some will disagree, but that's just what I've observed since '04 here in Raleigh. It's all about what's trending, and if you're not in that trend, you get overlooked. I, too, miss Ace's Basements, even when it was hot as balls down there. :/

Just book shows with every band in Charlotte. I've always thought shows where all the bands are different were the coolest. oddczar is down to play with anyone who wants to play. So, I guess if you're bored or frustrated with the scene, or "lack of shows", hit us up and we'll set something up.
I don't know if that related to what anyone was saying, but it's what I'm taking from it. Let's do some shit. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I don't know if that related to what anyone was saying, but it's what I'm taking from it. Let's do some shit. ;D ;D ;D ;D There needs to be more of that. More variety! I enjoy playing/attending shows with all different genres simply for the reason of not everyone sounding the same. But even still, this isn't for a lack of talent here in NC. Charlotte, GSO, Raleigh, Wilmington, and spots in between have decent bands. We just need to do a better job or promoting these bands. I say we rather than the bands themselves, cause we all know ideas piggy back on other ideas. People listening to Torch Runner should be able to mention that they're one of the best bands right now, it's not TR's job to do that. Same for lesser known or newer bands. If they're good spread the word, get people into it, get asses out to shows. Buy merch, go to shows, give shout outs, review albums, share links for band who offer free downloads. We don't buy tickets or donate money to stand in a basement and stare at eachother, we wanna rage, jam, rock out, whatever. Being in a band is hard as fuck and we have way too many bands for this state's scene to not be better. Obviously bands that are out are doing a great job of sustaining themselves, (recording on their own, making their own merch, booking their own tours, promoting other bands) it's time we gave them some help and up the support we give out. ***And this is in no way excluding people putting on shows. It's not Matt, Scottie, Luke, or anyone else's sole responsbility to keep shows going. It's a group effort.****
