Charlottes "hardcore scene" is a popularity contest. I disagree. I know I personally book bands that promote themselves pretty hard. There is no popularity contest when it comes to working hard.

I'm fucking happy as shit as to how Wilmington's shows are. Maybe it's cause we never had humongous shows where NC bands were the only draw but I feel like we haven't had a dud show in 2 years. Maybe it's cause I go on tour a lot, I'm humble and if 50 people come out I'm happy. I only book bands with this mentality unless they are a couple steps above and then if you do the proper promotion everyone feels like the show was as good as it was promotionally possible.
I also try to book really fucked up, diverse shows and I really don't turn my nose to different styles, you have to be open-minded if you want everyone to participate.
But Wilmington has a ridiculous amount of musicians for being such a small town it might help that everyone here just wants everyone else to do well and succeed.

Treasure Fest was such a huge success because you had bands like Torch Runner, who are heavy as hell, play, but after their set you could walk over to 1212 and see Algernon, who in some respects are opposite of TR. You could see Matt Evans but then go watch Junior Astronomers, or Harvard. Shows like that give people the chance to see bands they wouldn't normally check out. Not saying others don't, but Josh has given oddczar a lot of love and help by letting us play with bands that we like, but at the same time are completely different from us, giving us the chance to play for people who might not otherwise give us a chance. Aside from being a refreshing breath set after set, it also gives bands like oddczar (I use oddczar because its my experience) and other bands that aren't as well known the chance to be heard, and hopefully if it goes well, a chance to impress people. Keep shows weird by keeping line ups weird.

It doesn't hurt that Oddczar draws well and does a decent amount of promoting. They are always nice and really appreciative and that goes a long way with me.
Nothing has happened to hardcore just if you are sitting around waiting for "hardcore" shows to happen you might miss some really awesome bands that are just as intense in an entirely different way. Get into it.

For real. Seeing 4-5 bands that all sound the same can get really boring. Some of the funnest shows I've played are ones with really diverse bills where its not just a bunch of heavy hardcore bands.

I'm happy with current state of affairs within the Charlotte hardcore/punk scene. I'm pretty happy with the current state of NCHC all together.

Charlotte people, has anyone been to the Chop Shop? I heard it was pretty cool. We needed another venue.
Also I fail to see how Charlotte's scene is a popularity contest.

Leaf blowers prove their versatility in the fact that most are able to vacuum, clean gutters and blow snow. It is well worth the extra money to purchase a multi task leaf blower. Some blowers come with a mulching mechanism, and others with innovative ways to carry the blower such as a backpack, or trash can connection. Regardless of the leaf blower that is chosen, it is important to be able to use it with ease. If the leaf blower begins to vibrate it is a good idea to take a break. Some leaf blowers vibrate through the whole process and this can be wearing on hands and arms, causing the operator to become tired as the process wears on. Leaf blowing should be conducted on a completely dry day. If there is moisture in the leaves they will stick to each other creating more mess than anything. Once the leaves are wet they become impossible to blow – and will stick to the ground and other surfaces. As well as dry, the day should be relatively wind free. Leaf blowing on a windy day equals a whole bunch of headaches. Proper safety apparel should be worn before attempting any type of outdoor maintenance work. Ear protection should be worn as leaf blowing can be very loud. Eye protection is important because leaves could blow into the air and obstruct your vision – even damaging it. Gloves will protect your hands from grime and dirt that is on the leaves, as well as blisters from working the machinery.

I've heard that Chop Shop is pay to play. In that if you don't make enought money then the club will give you a bill for their expenses. Can someone confirm that?

I've played there three times (twice with oddczar, once with Tyler Brown) and we didn't have to pay anything. I haven't heard of this happening, but I also don't remember how many people were there. The place is alright. I still don't think anyone knows where the fuck it is, or that it's been around long enough to gain the exposure a venue might need to bring people out. The sound is pretty good for the audience, but on stage you can't hear shit. Overall it's alright, but it's nothing special.

I have heard really only good things about this place. Certainly no fuckery like this though. But maybe that's the case if you set something up yourself outside of regular operation.

There are so many things I don't like about the Karate Dungeon place... The main reason being that before I played there it was talked up to me a lot and I was told it was a "huge basement". In fact, it's not.. and it's too cluttered with shit. There is no spot for a band to set up merch. Also, loading gear down a muddy, gravel driveway ain't no fun. To me it's like Sewercide Mansions redneck cousin that lives a couple hours away.
