i know kids who have been asking me about cheap tube heads, and i'm sick of refering them to windsors or valve kings just because they can't afford anything decent.
anyone have any ideas i can tell these people? because as you all know lately i've been stuck on my marshall kick and unless someone gets lucky like i did, they're not gonna get a GOOD marshall or other high end amp for cheap.
what are some LOUD 100w all tube amps that aren't total pieces of shit that can be found for cheap? [in your opinions...]

I've been wondering this. I want a more versatile amp then my randall. It only sounds good for one tone, at one volume, and nothing else.

just for the record, the volume difference of a 50 watt verses a 100 watt really IS NOT just a couple db.
my jcm 800 is loud, but no where near as loud as my jcm 2000 was. thankfully, i have good tone, and not a screeching pile of dying bats.

I REALLY want a vtm120. Levi buy my half stack! eff that, i found a mesa boogie mark III 2x12 combo that i'm selling my entire bass rig to be able to afford. i'm officially going to be finished as a live bass player for a while and stay strictly with guitar. imagine running that thing through a 4x12. 3/4 stacks ftw.

real fast:
the decibel difference between 100w and 200w is almost inaudible. it's something like 3 decibels. the difference between 50 and 100 is pretty significant, but much more than 50w tube is pretty pointless for most music.
also, solid state heads fucking rule.

funny story:
a friend of mine who plays guitar in a shitty bree bree "deathcore" band from hickory says "hey man do you think its a good idea if i sell both my marshall MG 100w amps and use the money to buy a 120w peavey 6505?"
my answer: "where the hell did you find a 6505 for 200 bucks?"

i would love to know alot more about the sovtek mig series. because they are easy to get. what kind of tones have you gotten from them, cuz i was considering getting a mig 50 to run as a slave to my jcm 800, or the other way around, depending on my mood.

they are the same thing. 1960a generally refers to slant, 1960b refers to straight. the majority of all marshall cabs use celestion g12-75's, but the older 70's models used 25w greenbacks, and i think some of the jcm900 model cabs used vintage 30's. theyre all the same basic build, 16/4 ohms mono/stereo, etc. etc.
and you wont find a working jcm800 for under 700 dollars, regardless of condition.

i finally followed suit and de-tolexed my marshall. i stained it with a natural stain so that it moreso matches the tan grillcloth used to decorate the front panel. i'll post pictures soon once it dries and gets a second coat of stain... possibly even a clear coat... i dunno about the clear coat though. any suggestions?
