"Basic" might be an understatement....thats a stout rig you have and I wouldnt be in a hurry to change it either. I've worked with the exact same rig before and its a solid touring setup. I'm sure its massive and my only suggestion would be to add a 15" or two to the mix and see what happens. I'm thinking magic In one of my side projects, I use an 8x10

As in an Ampeg 8x10? Or a Marshall style 8x10? If you ever got the chance to run a 4x12 and a 1x15 out of each head I think it would be a very Melvinsy outcome but with way more...ooomph; from the peavey head. I just blew my nice 15" speaker the other day so I've been waiting on replacement parts. A little off-topic here but I used to be an advocate of the Ampeg 8x10 cab but after several years of exposure to them as well as other bass cab configurations, I've learned that they are one of the worst and most inefficient speaker designs out there. Dont get me wrong, they are tried and true and easy to transport but just cant compete with a good multi-cab setup when it comes to overall sound and bass-response.

Haha, I googled the answer to this question, and this thread was in the top 5 search results. Small world. Anyways, down to business.
Fuck I just read what I had originally typed, and erased like 3 long ass paragraphs of pretty extraneous information. Anyways.... Long story short.
I've gotten a wild hair up my ass to play an 8x10 through my Beta Lead 2x12 combo. Bear in mind I play guitar, not bass. Beta Lead pushes hard as fuck through the 6x12's I play it through already. I figure I can get enough bassy tone from the 2x12's in the combo, and get some gnarly high end shrill from the 8x10. Is this a wrong assumption? I know a lot of it depends on the 8x10 itself as I've read on some the past pages.
I guess my concern is that I'll lose a lot of volume. The 6x12s get loud as fuck without having to push the beta THAT hard. I don't wanna overwork my amp trying to keep up with the ridiculous volume that I'm used to.
Any suggestions? Halp.

You will not lose any volume. I would say that you will be even louder with the 8x10. The 2x12's will give you ok bass response but its a lot to do with the cab design for that. For my taste, I would choose a 4x12 or maybe 2x15 cab (ala' dimebag) along with the 8x10. The more speakers, the more perceived volume. The fact is, you are pushing more air. Yes, you will get a ton of good high's from the 8x10 but it will give you a nice solid feeling that you can feel physically.

Out of a combination of interest and nothing to do I just read all 35 pages of this thread. I'm pretty bummed that I'm just now getting a guitar rig together after this thread has died, but I definitely learned a lot reading all this, especially from Levi.
If anyone sees this and has a 4x12 for sale let me know.

I have a crate flexwave 4x12 that's been chilling in my shed for almost 2 years. Last i checked it was in good condition. I will honestly say that I am not a huge fan of this cab,as these generic crate speakers didn't really do it for me,but if you need a cab on the quick fast and for cheap then just let me know.

Thanks, man. I don't know if the Crate would be to my liking but if I need one soon and don't find anything else I'll PM you.
