Well. I heard someone else play through a VTM the other night - and it inspired me to fix mine instead of scrapping it and buying a new head. Looks like I get the privelege of spending another ~$200 on and amp I bought for $300 (i already spent $120 on it a few months ago). fuckin tube amps.

Next month I will be holding either an Orange, Hiwatt or Soldano. I'm getting bored.
Edit: Soldano Avenger takes the cake.

It depends what ohmage the individual speakers are. There are a few different variables. If they're 16 ohm speakers you can wire them in "parallel" to 4ohms. If they're 4 ohm speakers you can wire them from "series" (16 ohms) to "series-parallel" resulting in 4 ohms. You're options vary between speaker ohmage and the number of speakers you can pair (2x12/4x12). The diagrams on this site explain it well: www.colomar.com/Shavano/4x12wiring.html

Now running a beta lead instead of a concert lead. Way better. Having two sets of EQs to dial in a tone is awesome.

Love Beta Leads! Did you just happen across one? I'm always jealous of King B's dual-racked beta leads but I know he is terrified to think of having to replace them....

Yeah, a friend was selling it. He's had THE worst year with equipment difficulties and decided to go the "name-brand reliability" route. Not exactly my style but then again I haven't had 3 heads and 2 cabs shit-out on me in one year.

I recently downsized and mostly playing an Axe FX II modeler at home, but got a 5150 II and VHT Fatbottom cabinet sitting at the band's practice room. I've been holding back on deals I've seen lately, telling myself that if a good ol' 5150 can't get me there, I don't need to be there. I have one of those DAR FBM preamps on preorder though... I'm an enormous Meshuggah fan, and have a custom 8-string built similar to their specs.

Yowzers, pretty heavy rigs there. Lots of people use the fractal stuff these days. I think the portability of the whole thing has sold most folks. Would be a fun practice amp or sure, I'd stick with my head for anything stage but it would be fun to create dream rigs at home in my living room with the push of a button! Good to see you are happy with your guitar rig too. I like when someone develops a sound and stick with it. Hung out with the guys from Meshggah at the pool in Perth for a few days. Cool dudes. We sat outside and listened to King Diamond blasting from their stereo for like 8 hours one day....It ruled. I can barely play guitars that have 6 strings, much less 8...

Traded my JCM 800 2203x (reissue) for a 5150 II and Sovtek 4x12. Much happier--that 800 lacked a certain fullness and seemed almost scratchy.

I need to buy a new guitar. I have no idea what I want, just a long list of what I don't want I've always really enjoyed 80's era Aria Pro II axes. I have an Inazuma that I will never get rid of, people grossly underestimate them. It is true that they have cheap pots/switches but I mean, that stuff is so cheap and simple it really shouldn't deter you.

anyone had any experience with whitebox cabs or eminence governor speakers?

Those Whitebox cabs dont seem any better than most companies of their nature (avatar, lopo...). Probably good cabinets for a good price but I wouldnt rate them any better than Avatar, decent Marshall, Orange or whatever. They dont have the technology of a Port City cab or the throw of a Splawn cab but I think they are going for the straightforward, throw and go kinda approach. The speakers are going to make the cab. As far a the Eminence Governors go, they are Eminence's take on Celestion Vintage 30's. They are built a little tougher but I dont know that they are quite as "sweet" sounding as V30s but are excellent, mid-happy speakers. I would recommend combining the Governor with another model (Legend!) to get a broader sound from one cab.

Nice practice space there, wish I had a big, open space for my stuff. Currently, all my cabs and most of my amps are confined to one room and my guitars have to live on the other side of the house in their own room....Some day the two might join each other..

My favorite eminence from the Patriot series is definitely the Cannabis Rex (although the Governor are sick). Not to be a salesman or anything, but Mojo's British Vintage line sells a Vintage 30 type speaker also and it comes damn close to the Governor but is a little more versatile (and a tiny bit cheaper). www.mojotone.com/store?search=bv-30+hOther than that, I do love a solid set of Legend 1208s. My Randall cab is a 2x12 1x15, all Legends. Sounds awesome. On another note, Mojo got in the new Magnatone prototypes yesterday and I played all three for like an hour.....fuckin' awesome, too bad I'll never be able to afford one of my own =[.

I need my guitar refretted and set up. It's an '81 Kramer Pacer Special. It's got a floyd rose bridge. Any suggestions for Charlotte area techs?

Yeah Landau in Harrisburg/University area will get the job done. They definitely charge like they are the only shop in town....Mullis music in downtown concord have been doing it for a very long time and I like them ok. There is also a place near Gastonia that Splawn amps sent me to to have some work done on a vintage Les Paul (I think it was the Fret Garage) that was pretty good. Good luck with it, you couuld take it to Sam Ash/Guitar Center but fuck that noise, those people are less than human in most cases.....

Ari at LA Guitar Factory (http://www.laguitarfactory.com/) does great work. He's worked on my bass a few times & did a top notch job of resurrecting an old guitar. Never had him do fret work (I play a fretless). He ain't cheap but he's good.

if anyone in nc has a beta for sale, I'm in the market.
I need a lighter, smaller amp to carry around nyc, and prices here are as insane as everyone says they are.

I haven't searched for new guitar gear in a while. What's wrong with me?!
Current set-up:
Sunn Beta Lead (red knob)//5150 II//Mesa 4x12 (straight)//Marshall 1960 (angled)
1969 Gibson SG Standard (original)
Pedals: Radial bigshot aby//tube screamer//isp decimator//TU-2 tuner
Basic, but I'm happy with it.

"Basic" might be an understatement....thats a stout rig you have and I wouldnt be in a hurry to change it either. I've worked with the exact same rig before and its a solid touring setup. I'm sure its massive and my only suggestion would be to add a 15" or two to the mix and see what happens. I'm thinking magic
